HEWLETT Mother: Sarah E. According to my aunt's research, he was born 20 Oct 1845 and died 3 Jun 1920, and married to a "Mattie", which could easily eb Martha.. Where she got this info, I have no idea. There are two William A. Hewletts listed in a Necessity Cemetery, Stephens County, TX and one is William Senior. The other is probably William Jr. It's quite probable that she could have gone back to Coryell after he died in Stephens! If you want to pursue this line further, let me know. His mother and uncle inherited a league and a labor of land in Hill county, TX, and I have a copy of the land grant that was signed by Sam Houston. -- As near as I can tell, his maternal grandfather (Jonathan Wallace) fought in the War for Texas Independence, went back to Alabama to get his family in 1836, and died there before he could bring them west. The land wasn't claimed until after the Civil War when the Wallace and Hewlett families left Alabama. A law suit was involved, and the land was awarded to them by the Texas Courts. Also, his fraternal grandfather was a Revolutionary War veteran. February 04, 1860 in Bosque Co., TX, d. January 23, 1943 in Coryell Co., TX, buried: Coffey Cemetery, Coryell, Tx. They were married September 04, 1881, so this could be William Jr. who was 29 in the 1880 census. I have no further information on the Hewlett line, but have more on the Griffin line that ties into my Graham lineage. The main lines I'm working on that lived in Coryell Co. include Beaty, Lamb/Lam, Jeanes, Graham, Arrowood, Draper, Rogers, Melton, Cox, O'Keefe. ..Mike Allen (http://home.earthlink.net/~naturalsoft) ----- Original Message ----- From: Wayne Jones <jonesr007@hawaii.rr.com> To: <TXCORYEL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 30, 2000 3:31 PM Subject: Re: [TXCORYEL] New Year > William A.
