Carl, I have the same records that Reba has. In Ruth Cemetery is William Charlie Bird with a double stone, but she is not buried there. I have no burial record of Billington Taylor. Also looking for descendants of Daniel Martin Rogers and Sarah McCrea. Their children were: Althea, William, Jimmy and Mary. Any help would be appreciated.
Looking for descendants of Stephen Edgar Rogers and Letie McCuistion who were married in Llano Co., Texas on February 4, 1893. Their children were: Mary, Margarete, Ava, Steve, Thurman, Camille, Ruby, Benjamin & Florine. Florine married Irvin Blakley? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Is it possible that your Sarah Cole Stewart Bird or John Wiley Edward Bird, be descended from Sarah Denton Bird and Captain John Bird, early colonists in Texas under Stephen Austin. I'm descended from them, through their eldest son William Parrish Bird, and his daughter Elizabeth Bird Sheppard who is buried in Levita. Kirby L. Hello Bobbie, and all Coryell County searchers - I am looking for information to tell me the name of the wife of Billington Taylor. Billington Taylor was my mother's ggrandfather. My mother, Ruby Ross Williams, told me years ago, before I was interested in family history, that her ggrandmother was Mary Jane Witherspoon. I can only find where her ggrandmother could be Mary Jane Kimbrough. My mother's mother was Mattie Bird Ross, daughter of William Charlie Bird and Sarah Jane Taylor. Sarah Jane Taylor was the daughter of Billington Taylor and Mary Jane. I have information that Sarah Bird, b. 22 June 1867, no death date, is buried in Ruth Cemetery, on the Fort Hood reservation. Does anyone know her death date, and is she the wife of William Charlie Bird? I have information in my files that Billington JOHNSON Taylor and Mary Jane Kimbrough were the parents of Sarah Jane Taylor. Someone, I don't remember who, told me this and I have always assumed that it was right. But I have always remembered, and wondered why my mother told me about Mary Jane Witherspoon. At some time, I acquired Billington Johnson Taylor's Civil War file and Mary Jane Kimbrough Taylor's Civil War pension file. Neither record indicated Sarah Jane Taylor was their daughter. If you all can follow me, after all the rambling I have done, I thank you for any information and direction you may give me on this. Best wishes to everyone... Carl Williams cwilli@flash.net
Dear List members, I would like to announce a new web site for the Coryell County Genealogical Society at: http://www.htcomp.net/ccgs/ccgsindex.htm Would be glad to receive ideas from you all, as to what could be placed on this site. This is in addition to our GenWeb site. The following address is one that we should have in a place where we can get to it easily in case we need it for ourselves or someone else. These are the Angels of the Internet and we need to know how to reach them when necessary. http://www.angelfire.com/ca/Toadstool/CyberCops.html Bobbie Ross, GenWeb county co-ordinator for Coryell County, TX http://www.rootsweb.com/~txcoryel/ Coryell County Genealogical Society webmistress: http://www.htcomp.net/ccgs/ccgsindex.htm Ross Home Page: http://www.htcomp.net/ross NSDAR http://www.htcomp.net/ross/dar "It isn't that they can't see the solution, It is that they can't see the problem" G. Thank you Bobbie for forwarding the query about Dr. Sellers' photo, etc. on our page. Bobby is a cousin that I did not have information about that is needed for the SELLERS FAMILY HISTORY BOOK I am compiling. We can help each other. Now if only I could find the firm proof about Dr. JOHN WARD SELLERS' brothers, SOLOMON, EDMOND AND JOEL that were all in CORYELL CO.. Our family story says that JOHN WARD SELLERS brought his family to TEXAS in 1854 and settled on the "old EDMOND/EDMUND place". I checked the CORYELL CO. BRANDS you posted to CORYELL CO PAGE and J.W. SELLERS has the same brand that EDMOND SELLERS had but I have yet to find official proof that they were brothers. I'm wondering if "the old EDMOND place" could mean the old EDMOND SELLERS place. Maybe someone that knows will see this and contact me. Thanks, Lynda
Much as I suspected, Bobbie. Thank you for the information. I will check out both records. Darlene, Native Texan, in Illinois mdgdevries@worldnet.att.net Researching: Adams, Ayres, Baird, Barnett, Bilyeu, Brown, Brumley, Butler, De Vries, Doggett, Dykstra, Edwards, Fitzgerald, Flynn, Harmsen, Kooinga, Kuiper, Lang, Lassiter, Nichols, Prince, Reitsma, Stallworth, Stone, Waddell, Witterhold, and many branches from these.
There is only one Jonesboro, it is situated directly on the county line and I suppose is involved in both county records. The school and cemetery are actually in Hamilton County. I have found some people in both census records. There is no clear distinction of years this has happened. This query can, I suppose, be answered by either the Coryell List owner (Bobbie Ross) or the Hamilton List owner (myself). Bobbie is much more authorative, so I'll let her correct anything wrong that I say. The ONE tiny town of Jonesboro, TX, sits on the Coryell/Hamilton County line. In fact, the school is just inside the Hamilton line, but is considered a Coryell taxing unit. Some consider the cemetery, just across the highway from the school and inside the Coryell line, to be a Hamilton entity. So, you're not the only one confused. NOW, Bobbie Ross gets to correct my mistakes. Can anyone clear up a location problem for me? I have an ancestor born in Jonesboro, Texas. I did a search on rootsweb to find the county and came up with two...Hamilton and Coryell. Is this one of the towns that was on that every moving border between these two counties? If that is so, does anyone know what years it was in each county? The other possibility would be there are two Jonesboros....Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help in advance. To: Darline, native Texan in Il - from another native Texan in New Mexico. Our Texas map shows Jonesboro on the border of Coryell and Hamilton counties on Highway 36. We've been through it going to Gatesville. In looking at your posting, I saw the family name STONE. I just wonder if there could be any Stone connection with my family from Falls County, Texas. If you are interested in making contact my E-mail is GRC18LSC24@aol.com Lena Stone Criswell
There is a Lafitte listed in Colorado County Texas. Go to the homepage of www.rootsweb.com/~txgenweb/ and click on Index to Cities and Towns in Texas. also on this page, you can click on TXGenWeb project County alpha Index and it will take you to Colorado County. I am sure there are volunteers there who can help you with Lafitte and your family. Kay and Bobbie, Thank you so much for your response. I think you are right that the town I am looking for is in Upshure Co. I am trying to track down where my great grandmother died. So I will keep looking there. I think that they did live in Coryell CO at one time. My great grandfather attended Baylor University in Waco, which isn't too far from there. Thanks again for all the help.
