Hi, Bobbie, and all you other Coryell Co. searchers, and all you folks in McLennan Co., also!! Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!! Please remember and celebrate the real reason for this season!! Bobbie, I agree that there is much to the idea that we should be helping each other, all we can. I do not know a great deal about Coryell County, so far as having been there is concerned!! However, a family from which I am descended did live there about 100 years ago!! In late 1879, Lovick Sherrod DUKE and his wife, Cynthia Adeline (Addie) FONDREN DUKE arrived there, from Bibb County, Alabama. They brought their eight living children with them, and also Addie's first cousin, Cynthia Alice FONDREN, plus two young black teen age men, who came with them, and stayed to work for L. S. for two years, to pay him back for their travel costs and his protection on the trip from Alabama to Texas. All their children had been born in Alabama, as they themselves also had!! These children were: Lafayette, b. ca. 1862 Quilla Coleman, b. 4-9-1864 Lena M., b. ca. 1866 Morda, b. ca. 1867 (he apparently died young, since his name is not included in the 1880 census of Coryell Co., concerning this household) Emma, b. ca. 1868 Coly A., b. ca. 1869 Margaret A., b. ca. 1872 Martha O., b. ca. 1873 Mary E., b. ca. 1877 My GF is Quilla Coleman, who became Sr., after his first son was born, and named for him. Quilla Coleman. Jr., was son of Bettie SANDERS and Quilla Sr., and was the first of nine children, one of which died young. The SANDERS family had also come to Texas, from Bibb County, Alabama, before the DUKE's had, and were located in Limestone and Milam Counties, at that time. This migrant couple, L. S. (a farmer) and Addie, were or (apparently) became Presbyterians, and the reason I am stating this, is that they are both buried in the Comanche Springs Cemetery, located between the east Coryell County line, and McGregor, in the west edge of McLennan County, very near to a railroad line, there. The cemetery was originally located (where it is now) but along-side the Comanche Springs Presbyterian Church. I feel that this church was probably a frame building, and the majority population of its congregation was primarily located near to the church, itself. The church building no longer exists, I am told!. However, the cemetery is still there, and several other DUKE persons are buried, either there, or in other cemeteries in McLennan Co. Any corrrections to this set of comments is greatly appreciated!! I am interested in locating any more specific information about the seven brothers and sisters of Quilla Jr., such as the persons they married, the families which resulted, the localities to which they finally arrived, and any other details of my (probably) many Duke cousins!! If any of the local Coryell or McLennan GEN students have any knowledge about those Duke persons (my G.Uncles and G.Aunts) or their descendants, I will surely appreciate hearing of them!! Regards to all you Texans, and you Texas descendants!! My Grandparents are both from Coryell County, and both their families moved there around the turn of the century. Great grandparents Daniel McCormack Patteson (1849-1032) and Elizabeth Standifer Patteson (1854-1926) died at Ireland. My Grandfather Daniel Fletcher Patteson and his brother Owen "Onie" Patteson operated variety stores at various times in Pidcoke, Pearl and Ireland. They were each postmasters in Pidcoke. Great-great grandparents John L. Hughett (1848-1929) and Mary Vandyke Hughett (1854-1924) moved to Levita about 1905, and are buried there. Great grandparents William Thomas Hughett (1871-1949) Angie Shoemaker Hughett (1876-1954) also moved to Levita about 1905, and are buried there. My grandfather Daniel Fletcher Patteson first married Venie Hoard in 1922, and after her death married my grandmother, Annie Mae Hughett, in 1927 in Ireland. I have connections to most of the Coryell County Pattesons, Hughetts, and Vandykes, and many of the Hardcastles, Chambers, and Clemons. Dear List members, sorry not to have corresponded with you lately, some kind soul sent the navidad.exe virus on Thanksgiving and not having my head about me (we had 22 for 5 days!) I opened it. Have been off line until 1 a.m. this morning and it was a bad one. Hope not to do that again, I still have lost a lot of things. Someone sent me these addresses and I don't know of anyone on this list doing Johnson research, but believe they would be interesting to everyone anyway. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=512470613&r=0&t=0&showTutorial=0&ed=976254441&indexURL=0&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=512461621&r=0&t=0&showTutorial=0&ed=976253755&indexURL=0&rd=1 Bobbie Ross, County Co-ordinator for Coryell County, Texas http://www.rootsweb.com/~txcoryel/
