    3. Cliff, I put a post on this site about 2 years ago about Gholson Gap and got a lot of info. from all over the USA. Some were desendents of the Gholson & Langfords. You're right some of the stories are better unpublicized. Thanks for the reply. 3. First let me thank Bobbie for all her hard work . She gives us her all. Merry Christmas Bobbie and thanks. I have several lines in Coryell County. My grandmother, who lives in Evant was born in Coryell County. Her parents were James H. LOGAN and Laura SHULTS. The Shults family had been in Coryell county since Laura's father Edmond Achols SHULTS ( 1832-1925) came there soon after the Civil War. He and several of his family settled in and around Arnett. Laura's mother was Mary Jane FARMER ( born in Coryell County, 1853-1882) .They are both buried at friendship Cemetery on Ft Hood. James Harrison LOGAN ( 1872-1961) was born in Texas. His folks came to Coryell County from South Carolina. He and Laura are buried at Restland Cemetery. I remember these two Ggrandparents. He was a farmer and had a blacksmith shop in Arnett. My grandfather, died last March right before he was 91. William Blake THOMPSON was the son of Noah Hinton THOMPSON of Mississippi and Mary Elizabeth MOORE of Mason County, Texas. I am not sure when Noah and Mary moved to Arnett. But all of there children were born in Coryell County. She was the daughter of Matthew Jefferson Stanford MOORE and Mary Tennessee BILBERRY. Matt and Mary MOORE along with Noah and Mary THOMPSON and a number of other family members are buried at Hemmeline Cemetery, in Arnett. Matt and Mary MOORE lived a Levita for many years. He passed away in 1919 and she died in 1956. Sorry this was so long!! And this is only my dad's line, Mom's is out of Gatesville also!! Rose (THOMPSON) Denson

    3. Happy Holidays, listers! I am still searching for any information about the ancestors of James Harold ALLEN, who lived in Gatesville from 1873 until his death in 1880. I also would like information about his son, Jesse Allen, b. 1871 in TX, and what happened to him after James's death in 1880. His maternal grandfather, Wm. CRITTENDEN, was granted guardianship of him, but I don't know what happened to him after that. This is my biggest brick wall. For Jan Morrison: Your Leakes from Ralls Co. intermarried with Brashears and others connected to my Boyd line. In the book Missouri Genealogical Records & Abstracts, Vol. 2: 1752-1839 by Sherida K. Eddlemon, there are a number of Leakes listed. E-mail me directly if you would like that information. Merry Christmas! Donna S. Boyd

    3. Hi Shirley - I'm glad to know you're still alive and kicking and still on the trail. A couple of weeks ago I went to the Coryell Co. courthouse with a Willis cousin and it was a great experience. I'm so impressed with the county clerk's bunch - they were very friendly and helpful and all the records were completely open. They showed us to the basement where the really old records are kept and just turned us loose. We had access to everything there. We could make copies of anything - have you ever had the experience of a snooty clerk telling you that you could only have a notarized copy of a marriage certificate that costs $10? Not so here - we lugged the book to the copier and it cost $1. I've found a Howitt Martin in Stephenville who is the nephew of Sarah C. Martin who married William Morrison, Lucretia's brother. Have I already told you about him? He says that Sarah's sister, Laura Isabelle, married a James H. Rogers who was the son of one of Silas Jackson's sisters and George Rogers. Do you have any info on any of the girls marrying George Rogers? Howitt is going to try to arrange for me to get into the old Oxford Furniture Co. funeral records to look for Silas and Lucretia's burial records. I talked to the Oxford grandson a few years ago and he was rather rude about not wanting to look for anything. But Howitt knows him pretty well and said he'd see what he could work out. Hope your holidays are merry. Jan

    3. My Coryell County families are as follows: John JACKSON and wife Mary WINCHESTER Jackson. John was born about 1809 in possibly OH. They arrived in Shelby Co., TX in 1837, were in Harrison Co., TX in 1850, and moved to Coryell Co. sometime between 1850 and 1856. Mary died sometime before 1856 when John JACKSON married Mrs. Sara Lucinda STERLING (maiden name unknown). One of John and Mary Jackson’s sons was Joel JACKSON bc 1833 TN who was married about 1864 to Susan A. (maiden name unknown) possibly in Coryell Co., TX. They were listed on the 1880 Coryell Co. Census and 1884 Taxpayers List. Would like to know what became of this family. One of John and Mary Jackson’s daughters was Hester Ann “Hetty” JACKSON who married John S. WILLIS (s/o William E. WILLIS and Rachel SPEARS). John S. WILLIS was listed on the Coryell Co., Taxpayers List in 1884. This family possibly moved to Palo Pinto Co. by 1889. Would like to know what became of this family. The following were also children of John & Mary WINCHESTER JACKSON and I have information on some of them. 1. Aaron JACKSON bc 1828 TN - Have no idea what became of him. 2. Olive JACKSON b 1831 TN married Simpson LOYD - Have some info. 3. Silas JACKSON b 1835 married Lucretia Ann MORRISON (d/o William Berry MORRISON and Mary Ann WILLIS) 4. C.(Celia?) or E.(Emma?)
