Bobbie, I'm more of a "homer" than a Coryell County researcher. My g g g grandfather Isaac Meeks was born in KY in 1804 and migrated to Franklin County TN. Parts Franklin County was changed to Grundy County in 1844. Isaac's forth son Benjamin, b 1834 d. 1874 was my g g grandfather. After Benjamin died, his widow loaded her six children in a covered wagon and headed for Texas, landing in Bell County. John G. Meeks 1854/1896, was Benjamin and Abigail's first child and my g grandfather. He married Mary Ella Wharton, 1859/1935 and their first child was Robert E. Lee Meeks who was my grandfather. Robert E. Lee Meeks, 1877/1953 was born in Bell County and migrated to Coryell County around 1906. All children of Robert and Clara Halpain Meeks lived their full life in Coryell County except the eldest, Sudie, who married a railroader named H. O. Payne and they lived in Waco until H. O. was transferred to San Antonio. Manson Meeks owned and operated Meeks Dairy after he bought it from Robert E. and Leonard, my father, owned and operated Meeks Cafe for some 43 years before retirement. Mary Meeks cared for her Mother for years before her death and Raymond worked for Leonard. My sister, Aunt and two cousins still make their home in Gatesville. Robert Earl "Bob" Meeks
List, Forgot to mention Herring and Poe, also, in Coryell Co. And Kirby, please forgive my misspelling yore Co., McLennan. It's probably old age, but my maternal grandmother would shoot me if she was still here, since she was born in Waco, along with two more of her 10 siblings. My father went to Baylor, and his dad is listed in the Dr. Pepper Hall of Fame...one of my grgrgrandfathers, Dr. A.J. Cooper, studied at Baylor, also. But I really think it's all the McArrell, McBride, McCahill, McCain, McCaleb, McCarty, McCleary, McClendon, McClintock, McClung, McCollum, McCormick, McCoy, McDaniel, McDonald, McEachern, McElreath, McElvane, McEntyre, McFall, McIlvane, McInvale, McKinley, Mckinna, McLean, McMahan, McMannis, McMillon, and McQuinns in my family that confuses me. My apologies... John Weldon

Searching for information about Thomas and Eliza Laxson, Elisha (Jim) and Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) Forrest, and Medart and Chandler relations. Many of the family members lived in Purmela, although some were from Gatesville. Any help would be appreciated, especially on the Laxson line, where we have the least information.

Hi! My primary families from Coryell Co. were WEDEMAN and ARROWOOD. Peter Daniel Wedeman; wife Lydia; children Esther A., Hiram Daniel, and Ann E.; along with father Daniel Peter Wedeman arrived in Coryell Co. about 1876. Esther married Calvin W. McCutchen, and Hiram Daniel married Fannie Arrowood. If anyone has any information about these familes, in particular what became of Ann E. Wedeman and her parents and grandfather, I would really appreciate your help. Also, James Edward and Lydia CLENDENNEN and children lived in Coryell Co. by 1880 until early 1900's. Hello, Thought I'd send out my short family mystery. Hope someone has some idea to help. Researching the Barker/Sherwood/Beverly/Rush/Allin tree. My grandfather, John Sherwood, b.1833 in KY; d. Coryell Co. Jan, 1904, is my mystery. He stated in 1880 Bastrop Co. census that his father was born in "Germany" and his mother in PA. Unable to determine if John had any siblings. Believe it or not, there IS a "Germany" community in PA, but no Sherwoods there - ever, so far as I can determine. Mystery continues now since 1994 - which Germany? John married Nancy Barker in Logan Co., IL in 1865; moved his family (and 3 children) first to Bastrop Co., TX in abt. 1878, then joined Nancy's sisters and brother in Coryell Co. in abt. 1881-82. Nancy (Barker) Sherwood's sisters are Sophronia Beverly, Marinda Rush, Rhoda Barker (spinster); her brother is Hanan Barker, postmaster of the Cove for abt. 15 yrs. Hanan's daughter Edith married Joett Allin; no offsprings. It's longer than I thought it'd be. Thanks. Joyous Christmas to everyone. Congrats to Gatesville High! Bobbie, Congratulations to the Gatesville team! And to you for a job well done on the Coryell Co. Page and list... My family moved to Central Texas anywhere between 1832 and 1870's, into Falls, Bosque, Milam, McClennan, Hamilton, Hayes and Coryell Co's, then migrated West to Coleman, Taylor, Haskell, Jones, etc. as more land was opened for homesteading. Most were farmers, and we still have one in the family, my brother, up at Earth, Lamb Co., Tx. who is good friends with Doug Atchley from Evant... The Coryell Co. names I research are: Armstrong, Davis, Hartgraves, and Sanders...some related lines are McCollum, Kellam, Dunnivan, Alexander, and Weldon. John Weldon Midland, Tx. P.S. Can't help but mention the Rob't E. Lee Rebels from Midland won their 3rd straight State Championship in 5A, something no team has done at the highest classification since Chuck Moser's Warbirds back in the 50's.
Bobbie, Don is right, you certainly can ask a personal question, especially of that nature! We were in Arkansas researching family last Oct., and went through Ft. Smith. I imagine with all the bad weather they've had this week, those roads are pretty bad by now. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family for your granddaughter. God Bless You, and hope your Christmas is a great one. Terry Turner Silsbee, TX
