    3. Dear List Members, in the middle of the first table on our home page is now the 1910 Coryell County census as it has been placed in the archives. This is pictures of the actual census and as such is very difficult to read. At this address: http://come.to/magnifier is a free download of a magnifying glass. It makes reading the census much easier. Bobbie

    3. Hi Bobbie and all, I am going to call them about a Coryell Co. map also. I need one for about 1930 or before. I have old Highway maps for Milam, Bell, Lampassas and several other counties, but I loaned my Coryell Co. to a family member years ago and they died and I guess took my coryell co., map with them. <yup> Cassie

    3. OK Guys, I am down to the point of being ready to work with a few pictures to see if I can do this. Send me any you would like to have in our album, a few at first. Also, I have called TX DOT and they are looking for a map for me, in fact after talking to their office they said they would go down in the basement and would have to look and then would call me back! Will keep you posted. Bobbie

    3. Dear List Members, I am looking for a Coryell County road map dated pre 1945. In other words I want one showing the roads and towns in what was taken over by Fort Hood. I will gladly copy and return to you or whatever you desire. I am still trying to make preparations for a photo album on our site. 3. This is great to have on hand if you are researching early Texas settlers. Land terms: Vara 33 1/3 inches; League 4,428.4 acres; Labor 177.1 acres tillable land for one farmer; Sitio one square league for ranching; Hacienda five or more square leagues; Augmentation the amount of land due a settler because of change in his status (example marriage) to be added to his previous allotment. (Just think how large some Haciendas were.) Cassie

    3. Bobbie & List: I think the Picture Album idea is great. Unfortunately, I personally don't have any pictures except those of my ancestors that are already on that page but I'm sure there are others that could profit genealogically from seeing photos, possibly of OLD school pictures, etc. Lynda Green ---------- > From: Bobbie Ross <bwross@htcomp.net> > To: TXCORYEL-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: pictures > Date: Friday, February 02, 2001 5:26 PM > > Dear List members, > It has been suggested that we have a picture album on our page. > Would like to have a discussion about the relative merits of one and whether > you think it would be something of value to other researchers. 3. Hello, And a hearty, "Yes" to the pictures idea Bobbie. I've got a couple to send, too, of the Beverly, Barker and Sherwood clans. And it sounds like that old map you have, Cassie, might be of real interest to the folks too. Do you think you could scan it and send it out? Some of us do not know where the old family homesteads were located. Fact is, I was discussing this yesterday (2/2/01) with our daughter, whose husband is now posted to Hood and has more access to the area than civilians might. We are tentatively planning a trip to see them (Killeen) during the Memorial Day Openening. I have a lot of old Coryell County pictures, some of them I don't even know who they are. I have several school group pictures that were taken early 1900's at the school on the Mountain and some of the Ruth community. Some of the Friendship, and Ewing schools. The group pictures were when my parents were in school. They were born 1901 and 1900, so they are quite old pictures. I am still working on the 1900, 1910 census for the communities that were before Ft. Hood. I am listing all the families that were living in that area in 1900 and 1910. I have a old map that my uncle drew many years ago of the area and he marked where the people lived. Where the stores stood, where the churches were and the homes. 3. Okay, here's a question from a neophyte...it was too wet on Saturday to make rubbings of headstones, which is just as well, because I don't think I have the right materials. What is the best type of "crayon," if you will, to do the rubbing with, and where can I find it? Obviously it has to be something very soft like graphite. 3. Bobbie, The picture you have on the Coryell County Page says the submitter had named a few of those shown. I have an Edwards who would of been in school in this area and in this time frame and was wondering if you could put me in touch with the submitted, hoping she can point out the Edwards mentioned and hopefully put a first name to him or her? Just wanted to take this opportunity to say what a treasure the many obituaries you have put on your page are. I have found many many of my family members there. It is very appreciated. I am offering to take pictures of specific head stones, if you have the location. I will either send prints via snail mail or scan and e-mail. 2. Ed Seward
    3. I was born in Gatesville in 1920. But we moved away soon thereafter. My first remembrance of Gatesville was when I was about seven years old and I came to visit my grandparents, John E. and Alice Seward who lived at about the edge of town. My dad was William E. "Ed" Seward. I know my grandmother was buried in the IOOF Cemetery in Gatesville. The newspaper article telling about my grandfathers death says that he was also buried in the IOOF cemetery, but I have been there and looked and could not find his grave site. If anyone remembers any of these people I would like to hear from you. Also if anyone knows how to find out who is buried at the IOOF cemetery, please let me know who to contact. If John Edward Seward is not buried there, how can I find out where he is buried. Thanks in advance for any help. Edward Sadler Seward eseward@net1inc.net
