I received the COOKE CO DIGEST #2 today. Do not know why. I get the individual message as they are posted. The digest today had message I had already received. No problem, just wondering why I received both. DOES ANYONE have a list of who is buried in Woodbine Cemetery or can tell me where to go to find this info on the web. I think my GG gf is buried there and maybe others of his family. I have a number of family members buried in Turner Cemetery there in Cooke Co (barely, right on the eastern boundry) Jim Skaggs

My name is Kathleen Burnett and I am your new List Mom. I want to take a moment and let you know who I am and a little about myself and how I work as a Mailing List Mom. I am a mother of 4 and grandmother of 9.8. I work outside of the home during the day. I am a list Mom to several other Mailing Lists. I am very actively involved in my own family research. I am a hands on List Mom, meaning I keep track of what is going on with the mailing list and if you are ever in need of me during the day, while at work, you can reach me at Kathleen.Burnett@era.com - in the evenings or on Sunday I can be reached at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net My goal for your list is to keep it a safe place for you to research post and share information regarding your Cooke Co., TX ancestors. Safe meaning a place where you are not subject to postings other than posting related to the subject of the list. For your information, the TXCOOKE Mailing List has 133 members, 97 of these are subscribed to the Regular List and 36 to the Digest List. I have very few rules on my lists, the main one is to treat your fellow members as you would like to be treated, Roll Calls will be called by me, with a beginning date and a ending date and the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me, KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net If you would like to visit the archived messages for this list you may go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com and type in TXCOOKE From there you can search by date. I need any information on a (Miss) Bennie Howell born about 1865-1880. Records in Hardin County, Tennessee refer to her as Bennie Howell of Texas, an only child. I understand that she was in Cooke County, Texas as a young girl after the death of both of her parents. I don't have any idea what family was taking care of her. Both Witherspoon and Howell families seem to be in Lauderdale County, Alabama. She was the daughter of Benjamin E. Howell and Sarah J. Witherspoon of Lauderdale County, Alabama. Sarah J. Witherspoon Howell is buried at the Richardson Cemetery in Waterloo, Lauderdale County, Alabama. There is no headstone for Benjamin E. Howell. He could be buried there also or elsewhere in Lauderdale County, Alabama or Hardin County, Tennessee. Thanks, Steve Cooper Cloverdale, Lauderdale County, Alabama STEVECOOPER75@COMCAST.NET
Dorie : would you look up where my J. J. Hutch(in)son, is buried, He was Postmaster of Burns City until he died in 1903, His son John is buried in Burns City and my half sister Monnie Hutchison is buried there but have not found his grave, Thank you Elvira Hutchison Waldie Gun Barrel City, TX.
Dorie, I would appreciate your checking for a record of a marriage. The marriage was between my great-grandparents. The marriage, I think, took place toward the end of December in 1888 in Cooke County. I have searched at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City, on the internet and in books. Can't find it. Groom: Charles A. Eaton (born 1864) Bride: Sallie J. Greer/Pierce/Thacker (born 1865) The problem is her name at the time of marriage. She was born Sallie Jackson Greer. She first married, according to an elderly cousin, John English Pierce in Grayson County. Because Sallie J. Greer's father died in the Civil War her mother remarried to a man named Thacker. So she could have married under any of the three names. At the time of the marriage she had an almost two year old son from her first marriage. Assuming she was married to John English Pierce, he died about 1888. Thank you for anything you can do. Jean
Dear List, I live in Cooke County, Texas, and am willing to do some lookups at the court house. I can check for marriages, birth & death certificates (when available), and sometimes am able to find wills, deeds. I can also check the cemetery books at our library for Cooke County gravesites. My price is right! I work for free. This is the only way I can say "thank you" to all the wonderful people who have helped me in my research. Blessings, Dorie
William R. Phillips and Iris Summy (dau of James and Nora Summy and b. in Dexter) were married in Whitesboro and had a dau Phyllis. William died in 1935 in Denison. Iris and Phyllis lived in Edinburg, Hidalgo Co. for several years and then moved to Temple, Bell Co., where Iris died Nov 1985 and Phyllis died Jan 1986. Did anyone know Iris and/or Phyllis? Phyllis's father and my great- grandfather were brothers, and she had been researching our Phillips family since about 1960. I'm trying to find out what happened to all her research papers, etc after she passed away. Any help is very greatly appreciated. Thank you. Kindest Regards, Mary Dempsey Independence, MO

However right next door to Ed SARK, is Francis IRBEN (listed age 48, from Witenburgh). That could very well be her, and she was buried as SARK, the name of her first marriage. The ages work. (Ed is older than any of the Irben kids). I'd look for a marriage Frances SARK to Jacob IRBEN in Wurttenburg.
