2. --part1_a9.176b2f20.28691466_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit hi, The greatest improvement will be if people will only be able to reply on the board. I've spent hundreds of hours on research to post on public boards each month only to have my e-mail box filled with people wanting to carry on looooonggg off board discussions that would require thousands of hours each month. Can't they realize how important it is to spend your time WISELY? Post all of your information accurately in a public format, NOT repeat it daily to everyone who inquires. I've even added at the bottom of every reply, "All of the above information came from... (the source)... and nothing more about this family is known by me at this time." Still some persist in DAILY pestering me, wanting more. Everytime i've written back to explain to them how important it is to keep ALL postings public they've never done that... perhaps their pride gets in the way? Some are from another state, looking for an unknown SMITH or JOHNSON and want you spend hours tracking them down, when there was no proof the guy ever lived in your state. Yet every "newbie" out there has the potential of holding onto the missing piece to my jigsaw puzzle, so i'll always go out of my way to be extra nice... even after they share what they have. You can now post photographs and other types of files for all to see... maybe its an easier way of identifying someone? By clicking the writer's name you can see their other postings under that user name. It was a shock to my system to see the new board... but if all postings are to the board... i'm happy! happy hunting dennis in reply to: In a message dated 6/25/01 4:56:59 PM Central Daylight Time, rexbrown@shreve.net writes: > Subj: New Message Board > Date: 6/25/01 4:56:59 PM Central Daylight Time > From: rexbrown@shreve.net (Gail Brown) > Reply-to: rexbrown@shreve.net (Gail Brown) > To: TXCOLORA-L@rootsweb.com > > Last year, as many of you know, MyFamily, which also owns Ancestry, bought > Rootsweb. At the time, they pledged to keep Rootsweb free, as it has been from the beginning. Recently message boards from Rootsweb's GenConnect (which I've used on my county sites) and Ancestry's were merged. Along with many other county and surname board administrators, I have spent most of the last 3 days trying to work with the new system. At my age, change is tough! There are still some bugs and kinks to be worked out, but I think this will be a good system to use to post your queries and other data. I've set up a page for each of my counties, explaining the basics, and a link to the new Message Board site. One big change is that you will have to register to post a message. If you already are registered with MyFamily or Ancestry, you can use that username and password - or set up a new one. There is no charge for registering. You can read and search messages without registering.
