http://www.columbustexas.net/library/history/part9.htm I am on part 9, but you might want to start at the first. Really interesting reading. Both my mother's parents were born in Colorado Co., so I spend lots of time at their website. ----- Original Message ----- From: <dec1019@aol.com> To: <TXCOLORA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, July 26, 2002 12:44 PM Subject: decease in 1893 > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XhB.2ACE/621 > > Message Board Post: > > Sorry, I should have typed the year 1893. > > Dorothy > > > ==== TXCOLORA Mailing List ==== > To post a query, or data, for others to find, go to www.rootsweb.com/~txcolora/messages.htm > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 > >

There were three county papers at that time: Colorado County Citizen (Columbus), Weimar Mercury, and Eagle Lake Headlight. Which of these do you think might have his obituary? I will be happy to look the next time I am at the Nesbitt Memorial Library. Dorothy Coordinator Colorado County TXGenWeb

My favorite critic has told me that I do not give you people enough information. So this time I am going to be very specific. If you will go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~txcolora/obitst1.htm you will find the obits that have been loaded for those people whose names end in "T." (As you will probably guess I'm related to the Taylors.) Down toward the bottom of the page you will find not only obits but pictures for Rose, Susannah, Thomas and William Taylor. All pictures except Susannah's were cropped from pictures of old pictures by a novice. (Hopefully, my next lesson will improve the quality. I am just anxious to show you what can be done. With your help we can made this an interesting and informative site.) Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share my love of Colorado County and genealogy with you. Dorothy Albrecht Coordinator, Colorado County TXGenWeb Project
Hi! I've beem busy playing wih our website. As I mentioned earlier, obits have been added. Since working on the Osage Cemetery, Dorothy Cox has sent obits for the Montgomery-Thatcher Cemetery and they are now on line. If you have obits for family, friends are others buried in Colorado County, please consider sharing them with us. I have touched on schools (see Willow School and Diamond Grove Academy) and communities (See Bernardo). This will give you an idea of what can be done. They certainly are not in their finished state. Just like a genealogy, there will never be a finished web site. I am finally getting to the place where I know a little bit about handling photographs so hope to include more and more--putting them on the community, school, cemetery and obit pages. If we ever get any biographies, photos could go on those pages as well. Come see us on the web and let us know what you think. Dorothy

Sometimes those hotlinks work on mailing lists and sometimes they don't! Go to http://www.thevictoriaadvocate.com/columnists/wolff/story/436704p-550254c.html for the Henry Wolff column on Colorado County tombstones. Rox Ann Johnson
After goofing off for a while, I finally got around to adding to our GenWeb site. There have been a large group of obituaries for people buried in the Osage cemetery added. These were some I had in a database that was to be used in writing a booklet on the cemetery. But thought that you might like to see them. Also, hope that that would inspire you to share any obits which you might have. (Included on the web are several that were sent to the mailing list in the past) Bill Stein at the Nesbitt Library has committed to linking people on the library burial list to any of the obits we publish. He will be out of the state next week, but when he has caught his breath, I will be pushing him to get with it. On July 1, Dana Thomas <asc@txgenweb.net> Page Evaluation Committee Chairperson, wrote in part: >The Page Evaluation Committee would like to announce the June 2002 winner of >the Mike Basham County of the Month Award: > >Please join us in congratulating Fayette County, TXGenWeb site >http://www.rootsweb.com/~txfayett/ > >Congratulations to CC Rox Ann Johnson mailto:RoxAnnJohn@aol.com on a job well >done. > >Way to go Rox Ann! I am very pleased that my daughter and mentor received the County of the Month Award. And with your help, maybe one of these days, Colorado County will be more than a finalist. However, my goal is not to win awards but to produce a site that it helpful to those with Colorado County roots. Thanks, Dorothy
