Hi, I'm Annie Savidge. I'm researchingthe ancestry of my great-grandmother, Ellen Frances Katherine Boyer. Her father was William Boyer. She was born in Collin County, TX around 1870. She married Ullyses Grant Gifford, of Denton County, TX. Ullyses migrated from Illinois with his father and step mother. Ellen's parent's reported their birthplace as Virginia on the 1880 census. It is unclear as to who Ellen's mother was. William's wife is listed as Mary on one census and Jane on another. It is believed that the surname of one of these women was Hackler, but it really unclear as to who is who. My mother always believed her name was Mary Jane Hackler, but this does not make a great deal of sense to me. It seems more likely that the first wife died and he remarried between censuses. Ellen and Ulysses were married in 1888, we don't know where.
