Both parents and grandmother, Mercy Blatchley McKinney, died the first year or so on the Red River. Supposedly the younger children (including Betsy) lived with their uncle and aunt (Collin and Margaret Leake Coleman McKinney). Betsy McKinney Brinlee's first daughter was named after Margaret Leake Coleman.
