    2. Nicole: Your Jack Salmon is shown as in the 1900 US Census in Denton County and the daughter you referenced Eunice is listed as born April 1893 and being 7 years old at the time. Mother is deceased, but was born in Arkansas. Last name is shown in the index and on census as Salmons. His first name is shown as "Jac" on the index. If you view the original image you can see the "k" is just written through by the census takers notes. 1870 US Census in Plano, Collin County, Texas lists Jack as Jackson Salmons, age 4 years. Here are the family members shown, with all sibling born in Texas: Head - John born 1828 in Illinois Mother - Sarah born 1832 in Illinois Daniel - age 22 Janell - age 20 Nancy - age 18 Josephine - age 15 Malinda - age 15 John - age 9 Lanford - age 7 (could possible by Sanford) Jackson - age 4 Patrick - age 1 Please remember the history of Cherokee ancestry. During the years John & Sarah were born it was turbulent and dangerous times in the Nation (Tennesee, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina). Families fled to Illinois & Indiana to escape the murder and persecution that was beginning. It was 1839 that the Trail of Tears began. If a family was able to "pass for white" they most often tried in order to protect the lives of their children. It was a terrible time. I am from Collin County, Texas. One line Thomas Rains moved his family to Illinois and my gg-grandmother was born there. They migrated to Texas most likely because it was rumored to be the land of opportunity. There is mention of the name Salmon or Salmons in Native American rolls. O. Salmon is listed on the Trail of Tears Roll as being cited for removal from the Tennessee homelands. If he is your ancestor, he may have been able to escape the mass removal. Mary Salmon applying for citizenship to the Choctaw Nation in 1896 (present day Durant area) is the only other mention of the Five Civilized Tribes ( Cherokee, Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw & Seminole). Hope this is some help Shelley Scott Creekmore Drumright, Oklahoma
