Mother is deceased, but was born in Arkansas. Last name is shown in the index and on census as Salmons. His first name is shown as "Jac" on the index. If you view the original image you can see the "k" is just written through by the census takers notes. 1870 US Census in Plano, Collin County, Texas lists Jack as Jackson Salmons, age 4 years. During the years John & Sarah were born it was turbulent and dangerous times in the Nation (Tennesee, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina). Families fled to Illinois & Indiana to escape the murder and persecution that was beginning. It was 1839 that the Trail of Tears began.
