Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UkB.2ACI/4871.1 Message Board Post: In the Colllin County Chronicles, put out by the Collin County Genealogical Society, Vol XV, 1994 there are a couple of articles of interest concerning the Civil War. p 76 has a short item about the 6th Cavalry Regiment. It was also called the 2nd Regiment...organized with 1500 men in Dallas....Many of the men were from Dallas, McKinney, Waco, Austin and Lancaster, and Bell county..... By 1862 they were down to 803 men...was dismounted during the battles at Corinth and Hatchie Bridge where 148 wee killed, wounded or missing......assigned to Ross' Brigade.... The 6th Infantry members were from McKinney, Austin, Victoria and Matagorda county. .... The 16th Cavalry was comprised of men from Gainesville, Brenham, Farmersville and McKinney. The Fifth Texas Partisan Rangers was created by the consolidation of the 10th TexasCavalry and the Ninth Tx Partisan Rangers....some were from Farmersville and McKinney..... If you know the Confederate regiment your ancestor was in you can look him up on microfilm at Hillsboro at the Coinfederate Research Center and Museum.
