LANE, VETERAN POLICE OFFICER, DIES ________ MEMBERS OF DEPARTMENT TO SERVE AS PALLBEARERS AT FUNERAL Funeral services were being arranged Saturday for Capt. E. B. Lane, 65, a member of the Dallas police department for thirty-two years, who died of a heart attack in a local hospital Friday night. Members of the department who served with Captain Lane will be pallbearers. Captain Lane, who was born in Collin County, entered the police department in 1905, when Epps Knight was chief. In 1907, Lane was transferred to the mounted division, and in 1908, was made a sergeant. He was promoted to captain in 1909, and for seven years, served as night chief. He was the only officer to hold this position. In 1916, when the department adopted the double platoon system, Captain Lane was placed in command of one of the details. During his entire service in the department, he never lost his rank. Death Broadcast. For the first time in the history of the department, the death of a member was broadcast over KVP to all officers on duty Friday night. Inspector J. M. Welch will select the pallbearers and aid in completing the guard of honor and other burial arrangements. Captain Lane is survived by his widow, Mrs. Virginia Lane; one son, Reeves M. Lane, both of Dallas, and one brother, Rev. William Lane of Cuero, Tex. Mrs. Geraldine Lane Swinsky, Dallas Little Theater sponsor, who died two years ago, was a daughter. Two years ago, when Captain Lane completed thirty years' service in the department, he was presented with a gold badge by members of the department. B., age 65, died Friday night at local hospital. Residence, 5443 Richmond. Survived by wife, Mrs. Virginia Lane, and a son, Reeves M. Lane. Funeral services 10 a. m. Monday from the chapel of Ed C. Smith & Bro. Interment in Grove Hill, Dr. S. H. C. Burgin and Dr. L. N. D. Wells, officiating. Pallbearers: Inspector J. M. Welch, Lieutenant A. H. Dillinger, Sergeants A. N. Vittrup, W. S.
