    1. Re: genealogy - Another Brother, John Reed Sirkel/Sirkle
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Sirkel/Sirkle, Winters Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UkB.2ACI/800.1.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Robert, thanks for the reply...I wish I could help you with JJ or Mary but my knowledge of the various Sirkel/Sirkle families is limited to that information posted on the internet and what little I have found at the Austin (TX) History Center. All this started when I began tracing my husband's maternal genealogy: Bertha Ada Winters' first husband was John Sirkel; they married 6-23-1917 in Austin, Travis Co., TX. One child, Lela Marie Sirkel (AKA Rich) was born in 1919, then Bertha and John divorced (still looking for the exact date/location). Now this was a complete surprise and that lead to the search for just who John Sirkel was and what happened to him. I believe his full name to be John Reed Sirkel/Sirkle, that he was born 11-29-1897>1899 in TX. There were several other Sirkels in Austin about the time of the marriage: Travis County Marriages - Austin History Center Archives: Year 1917: M.M. Sirkel (female) to H. H. Howell A.L. Sirkel (male) to Fannie Appling (both lived near Waco, buried Austin) John Sirkel (male) to Bertha Winters (my husband's GPs) Year 1920: J.R. Sirkel (male) to Lucile Ayers [Is this 2nd. marriage?] Year 1924: Bertha Sirkel (female) to D.C. Rich [2nd. marriage] John Reed Sirkel's WW1 Draft Card records: Birth Date - November 29, 1897 in TX Next of Kin - Wife, Bertha adr. Sour Lake, Hardin Co., TX Occu - None Physical - Med Height, Med Build, Eyes Blue, Hair Blnd Card Dated - Sept. 15, 1918, Kountze, TX NOTE: Suspect JR Sirkel was looking for work in the oil fields... Now this census leads me to believe Webster was his father: 1900 TX Census - Collin County Series: T623 Roll: 1621 Page: 209 B 156/157; Lns 79-85 Sirkle, Webster D, Head, W, M, April 1866, 34, M, 13, TX, SC, TN, Farmer [he's buried in Grandbury, TX) Sirkle, Alice L, Wife, W, F, July 1866, 33, M, 13, 6, 5, MS, AL, SC, Sirkle, Sarah, Dau, W, F, Aug 1888, 11, S, TX, TX, MS Sirkle, Alford L, Son, W, M, Dec 1890, 9, S, TX, TX, MS Sirkle, Bertie, Dau, W, F, Feb 1893, 7, S, TX, TX, MS Sirkle, James, Son, W, M, Aug 1895, 4, S, TX, TX, MS Sirkle, Johnnie, Son, W, M, Nov 1897, 2, S, TX, TX, MS [IS JOHNNIE our John Reed Sirkel/Sirkle?] I found John R Sirkel in the 1930 Census, Bell Co., Killeen, TX, living with Alfred L Sirkel family of 9 children! It shows John R. as "brother" and "divorced"! Alfred's occupation is dairyman on dairy farm. So the question is what happened to John after that? I have found a John R. Sirkel born in TX who died in Silverbow, Montana in 1949, who was the right age, but who knows? Please keep me in mind if your run across anyone or anything that may help me; I will do the same. Sincerely, Tommie Clayton PS - You mentioned one of your ancestors being full blooded Indian; I found where a Daniel Webster Sirkel filed a tribal application number 5118 with the 1896 Dawes Commission. The application was rejected but it is in the national archives in Ft. Worth, TX. It would be interesting to ask for a copy to see what information it contains... 1880 Census, Palo Pinto Co., TX, Precinct 3, Dist. 157, June 3, 1880 52/52 Sirkel, John W, M, 58, M, Head, Blacksmith, IN, VA, N.
