    1. Re: Fowler/Collin Co.
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: FOWLER, HEATH, GRAY, GOODMAN, COGDELL, LEWIS, MATCHETT Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UkB.2ACI/317.581.613 Message Board Post: On my original post for this Fowler family I was given the wrong information (with best intentions of course). The Father was not John J. Fowler but John C. Fowler b. @1818 MO and his wife was not Mary but Olivia Heath b. @1824, KY or IN. John C. Fowler & wife Olivia Heath Fowler were married in Gasconade Co., MO Jan 15, 1843. They were on the following Census Records: 1850 Distr. 90, Saline Co., MO near her Aunt Olivia Heath Gray & her husband Joseph Ross Gray. 1860 Stewart Creek, Denton Co., TX not far from Aunt Olivia Heath Gray & husband Joseph Ross Gray. 1870 Granby, Newton Co., MO 1880 Bear Creek, Searcy Co., AR John C. and Olivia Heath Fowler had the following children I know about: Rachel "Ellen" Fowler b. @1843 MO David "William" Fowler b. @1845 MO Isabella (unknown 2nd or 1st name?) Fowler b. @1850 MO Mary "Mollie" Ann Fowler b. 1855 McKinny, Collin Co., TX Martha "Olivia" Fowler b. @1862-1869 Dallas, Dallas Co., TX I know that Rachel "Ellen" Fowler married Cornelius Lewis on Mar 17, 1861 Collin Co., TX (he had been on the 1860 Census Prec. 1 Dallas Co., TX boarding with R. R. Fletcher, and Cornelius Lewis shows b @1835 Ireland. I never located him anywhere else and he shows as dead when his probate shows in Collin Co. TX Feb 1863. I know nothing about this man. Rachel Ellen Fowler Lewis married Nelson C. Cogdell July 5, 1865 (he was b. @1841 MO) & They are in AR by 1880. As far as I know Rachel Ellen had no children with Cornelius Lewis. She had children: William L. Cogdell Charles N. Cogdell James Andrew Cogdell Olivia Cogdell I believe Nelson Cogdell was a widower and had a son named John Cogdell about 1862. I do not know the name of Nelson's 1st wife. David William Fowler may have been married prior to the marriage to my own Gr. Grandma Cassandra Minerva Jane Enterprise Goodman Sep 1, 1878 Van Buren Co., AR but I do not know? He was dead prior to 1884. I never located Isabella Fowler again after the 1860 Census showed her as born @1850 MO. This family tends to jump back and forth from 1st to middle name, they vary on year of birth and sometimes show "place of birth" as last place lived? I have located Mary "Mollie" Ann Fowler and her younger Sister, Olivia Fowler because Mary Ann had a grandchild, now in her 90s who had known enough to get us going on this family. Olivia Fowler married Francis Matchett and had the kindness to stay in Searcy Co., AR while she raised her 3 sons and it made it easier to track her. Joseph Ross Gray and his wife, Olivia Heath Gray show on the Collin Co., TX Probate records when she died about 1863 but I do not know where they are buried. I heard he died not long after she did. I know there were other Fowler's living in Collin Co., I wondered if we were related to them? I do not know the names of John C. Fowler's parents. I assume that if they named their only son David William Fowler that the David was for Olivia Heath's Father, David Heath so maybe the name of John C. Fowler's Father may have been William Fowler. I believe John C. Fowler had at least one brother, Jackson H. Peter Fowler b. @1815 KY. I only saw him on one Census Record, 1860 Osage Co., Washington Twp, Wesphalia, MO where he shows as a "Boatman" from KY with 2nd wife, Josephine & sons Thomas 13, MO, George, 11 & Henry 4. There is also a boarder, with the last name Steely whose occupation is also a Boatman & he shows as from MO. I don't have an age for him. Jackson H. Peter Fowler had built a boat to ferry on the Osage River just before the Civil War but when the war broke out the Governor had the boats (including the boat he and partner, William Crede had built) and bridges blown up to keep the enemy from reaching the city. Jackson died not too many years after that, June 24, 1866. Any help on this family would be really appreciated. I have no idea why the Fowler & Gray families moved from Saline Co., MO to the Denton/Collin Co., area of TX? It could be they had relatives there? Thank you for taking the time to read this very long query. Charlene [email protected]
