This sort of thing still goes on. Years ago in Houston I taught with a young woman who had moved to Houston from New Jersey because her father had been transferred to Houston. With the young woman was her new husband. And they had just convinced their maid of honor and best man to also move to Houston. Today folks may not live as next door neighbors and they might not move all at the same time but the group influence is still there.
