Hamilton Douglass and Mary (Gill) Douglass came to Texas in 1859 from Wilson County, Tennessee. They first lived in Grayson County but soon purchased land near Weston in Collin County. Although they spelled the name with a "double-s", their sons soon changed that to a single "s" (Douglas) as did other Douglass families in the area (not related). Three of the 4 sons served in Texas units of the Civil War (Raleigh was too young) and married local girls after the war. The Andrew Jackson Douglass family came to Collin County about the same time...from Tennessee...but are not related by blood to Hamilton's line. However, the two families became related through marriage in three ways: Andrew's son, A.J., Jr., married Emma Franklin (as his 2nd wife). Emma's sister married Hamilton's grandson, Robert "Pat" Douglas. Andrew's Great-granddaughter, Lura Bogan (daughter of his granddaughter, Lizzie Douglas), married Eldon Gill Douglas, Hamilton's grandson. And Andrew Jackson Douglass' wife's grandniece, Nancy Stewart, married Hamilton Douglass, Jr. Here are the children of Hamilton Douglass & Mary Gill Douglass: John Gill Douglas b. 18 Apr 1832 VA d. 14 Jul 1897 TX m.
