To the List: Regarding the Family History Show... I was given the same explanation by Mr. Spears about Michael Matthews resigning. But Mr. Spears has neglected to tell everyone the real reason. Mr. Matthews was paid $100 to do the show every week for KRLD. He was doing the show as a labor of love. Also, the station would not promote the show and had it on during the worst time (10pm-12pm) on a Sunday night. I had a tough time on Sunday's trying to stay awake and listen. Michael Matthews helped all genealogists...from the beginner to the most experienced. KRLD wants to make money...they would pre-empt his show many a Sunday for the Ranger Wrap Up show. I was told because it is a money maker and family history is not...and we go with the money maker. This tells me where they put the priority of this show and how they felt about genealogy and family history. Yes...I am upset about this and have felt the need to express my disappointment to others, mainly because Mr. Spears of KRLD said there was not enough interest in Family History, and this is his quote to me, "The audience is very loyal and very small unfortunately. Unfortunately, the program could never pay it's way with advertising support." I know genealogist's and there dedication to this hobby and did not feel there was little interest...that is why I have sent this to the mailing lists that I am on, because I love my hobby, and what Mr. Matthews did to help promote family history.
