The grave was marked with a wooden marker, which has deteriorated. 2. The stone was one of the thin stones or even a thick one which fell over and is now covered with soil. Have you checked to determine if any one has ever published a list of the burials in the cemetery? I found some of my relatives were listed in a publication by one of the local genealogical organizations, but visited the cemetery and did not locate the graves. I returned to the library copied the page containing the information for their graves, then returned to the cemetery with the copy and located the graves near my relatives and then found the back of their stone, which was lying face down and almost covered with soil. Good Luck with your search. Contact the Collin County Genealogy organization, and the genealogy department of the library. They have been very helpful to me. Author: lemonsox Surnames: SCARBOROUGH Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.texas.counties.collin/7574/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am trying to determine the grave location of my relative, Daniel Battle SCARBOROUGH. According to his obit, he was an early settler of Collin County, and the first teacher in the old Womble school house. He died about 02 Dec 1908 and his obit appears in the McKinney Democrat (p 3) on 10 Dec 1908. The obit states that he died in Farmersville and was buried in the Verona Cemetery. While visiting that cemetery earlier this year, I walked the entire cememtery but did not locate a stone for him. I contacted the cemetery, and they said that records from that time were destroyed in a fire, so they don't have any idea where his grave might be located. They stated that many early graves were marked with wooden markers, which have deteriorated over the years. Does anyone have any ideas where I might proceed from here? I thought maybe there are some other sources that I might contact about the grave location. Thanks for any info or direction! Hi! I forgot to tell you we found the Crowder marker at Fitzhugh Cemetery. However, it had fallen over so it was hard to find. It's not broken--just in 3 separate pieces. It needs to be restacked and "glued" together. I think the tree may have been part of the problem--the roots may have pushed it over. We were able to get the section with the writing "uprighted" so the writing wasn't on the ground on one side. That would have caused it to deteriorate. But it was too heavy for us to get restacked--that is going to take several men. Sometime we are having a family get together (when it's not so hot) we will try to get it fixed again.
