42 may have been played in the civil war and before. I have seen dominos in museums. I watched people play in the 1930s in Oklahoma.. If you know of Thomas C. Green and wife Katherine Griffin Green (They had a son Michael T. Green Born in 1947) in the Dallas area..I would love to hear from you. In 1930 Thomas C. Green and his wife Katherine Griffin Green worked for an insurance Co.in the Dallas area. amslagle@att.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Claudia Kraemer" <cfk@airmail.net> To: <txcoll-n@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 27, 2008 10:24 AM Subject: [TXCOLL-N] 42 > 42 isn't really considered an old game---just might be a memory for so > many > of us. > > It flourishes today. > > 42, also known as Texas 42, is a trick-taking game > <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trick-taking_game> played with a standard > set > of double six dominoes. 42 isn't really considered an old game---just might be a memory for so many of us. It flourishes today. 42, also known as Texas 42, is a trick-taking game <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trick-taking_game> played with a standard set of double six dominoes. It was created in 1887 in Trappe Springs (now Garner <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garner%2C_Texas> ), Texas <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas> , by 12-year-old William Thomas and 14-year-old Walter Earl, members of a strict conservative Southern Baptist <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Baptist_Convention> sect who were forbidden to play cards. 42 is often referred to as the "national game of Texas," and continues to be very popular in much of the state - in and around College Station and Austin, in particular, as well as in the Fort Worth-Dallas area. Tournaments are held in many towns, and the State Championship tournament is held in Hallettsville the first Saturday of March each year. More rules and info---see. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/42_(dominoes)

Who submitted the information on John Frelin's death date and place of death? My reason for asking is I had no death date but somewhere I got that he died in Whitewright, Grayson Co. TX. I looked on the Fannin County website and found several Birdwells but John wasn't one of them. I intend to go with the information you supplied and I'll send you what information I have on this Birdwell line. Until later, Linda Cowan Baker Blue Ridge, Collin Co. Her death certificate states a birth date of Feb 1869; however, she was not yet born as of the 1870 Census of Giles County. Only John Frelin's sons, John Thomas and Blooming Casey were born as of that census. Considering that Mollie is listed on the 1880 Census as being 9 years old, I have her birth date listed as 10 Feb 1871. I really appreciate the information, especially pertaining to Molly's two previous marriages. Regarding Frank Johnson, I have often wondered if the five-year old, living as a boarder of Thomas Howell/Nowell, on the 1900 Census of Hunt County, TX, is my Frank Johnson, but I have not been able to verify where he was in 1900. By the way, I have John Frelin's death as 10 Feb 1923 in Randolph, Fannin County, TX. I received a copy of his Confederate pension application from the Texas State Archives, and the whole packet contained numerous other bits of information, including hand-written notes from John Fr! elin and his son, John Thomas. I got John Frelin's death date from the packet. I will appreciate receiving any additional information on this Birdwell line. Thanks, again. While my Turner line moved around Texas for a while in the 1800's I don't think this is a part of my Turner line. Wish it was. My Turner Grandfather was born in 1879 in TX. He married Lelia Elma Jones ( always called Lee) He died in Cooper TX in 1949.
