I have since done much more research and found that this person is indeed my Katherine Shoemaker. For some reason, the information on her place of birth and her mother's maiden name are incorrect on both her death certificate and obit. Do not know why this is, but the facts were recorded incorrectly. Katherine "Katie Kyle" Shoemaker was born 13 October 1879 in Russell Co., VA to Philip Shoemaker and Susan Elizabeth Kinsey Shoemaker. I have found her birth record in that county. After extensive research, I am sure of my facts and would like to correct information on some internet trees. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am also interested in a Morris family that were in and around Collin County. Do you know if your James Barnes Morris had any connection to William Leroy Morris. I believe he was called Billy Morris. The time period I'm talking about is 1880-1900. Thanks. Lawrence Carroll Brinlee, my grandfather, married Sally Frances Norman; they had 10 children, including my father, J. V. Brinlee. In order not to clutter up the board, I can provide you with information on this part of the family offline. I know the general outlines of the George and Hiram Sr. families, but as I mentioned, have not input it into my genealogy program yet to be able to generate reports. Gale Wallen, who has already replied, and Edna Spencer are the Brinlee/McKinney experts that I know of. My big brick wall is Susan Elizabeth "Lizzie" Smith Bonner Brinlee, Hiram Jr.'s second wife and my great-grandmother; I am not even sure that her maiden name was Smith and do not know what the source is for that information. Jan 22, 1893. I have no wife nor any children listed for Lawrence Carroll Brinlee. The Brinlee line came into the family through Elizabeth Ann (Betsy) McKinney daughter of Daniel Younger McKinney who married Hiram Sr. (Also did you know that Hiram Jr's first wife is a great-granddaughter of Daniel Boone b. Nov 2, 1734?) Both Cindy (my niece) and I have an interest in the Brinlee line since her husband is a descendant of Collin McKinney. We'd appreciate any and all information on the Brinlee line. I attached the GEDCOM of John Mordecai McKinney to the first message I sent to this board. I have no idea how to retrieve it though. I need to learn or to find out how to see other GEDCOM's too. Brinlee Branch (N 33.27928 W 96.47971)- flows into Sister Grove Creek - nearest large town - Blue Ridge - seems to be where Hiram's Collin Co. grant land was (between Anna and Blue Ridge) so I'd assume the branch was named after Hiram. There were no other early Brinlees in Collin Co. - not even Hiram's brother George made it to Collin Co. We had a male cousin take the Y DNA test - our Brinlee family (so far) matched no other early Brinlee, Brindley, Brinley, Brindle group in the U.S. (included in the testing was someone from the John B./Elizabeth Dups family) We had an exact match in Australia (I think without looking it up) - he had traced his ancestor to Ireland. I will checkout the KY/Leake connection you mentioned. With your Brinlee line, do you know which Brinlee that Brinlee Creek was named? Niece Cindy Stephens and I visited the Brinlee Cemetery to gather information on the Brinlee line and each time time I travel to the Dallas Metroplex, I cross Brinlee Creek on Highway 121. Just wondering for which Brinlee the creek was named?? While we were in the area we did travel on to VanAlstyne to visit Collin McKinney's grave. (This was a couple of years ago and the caretaker there was extremely helpful - a very nice man willing to help us find our ancestors) Again, thanks for your prompt reply. I read my own letter and confused myself - too many Margarets and Betsys. Betsy McKinney Brinlee named her first daughter after her deceased mother, Margaret McClure McKinney and her aunt, Betsy Leake Coleman. I have some Christian>Todd records of Daniel and Collin McKinney. Both were listed in the 1820 Todd Co. KY Census. Also listed in Elkton, Todd Co. were Jas. Coleman, Robert Coleman, and Samuel Coleman. There were no Leake/Leek/etc. in the Christian>Todd records that I have. McKinneys, McClures and Colemans were in Lincoln Co. KY before Christian>Todd. You might check there for Leake info. Surely some Collin descendant has posted some. Gale Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
