    1. Re: [TXCOLL-N-L] Early newspapers
    2. The Harrington Library in Plano has the birth and death index to Texas 1903-1976; the index to the McKinney newspapers obits from before 1900 to 1930; they just acquired the indexes to the marriage, probate, and land records. Genealogy Friends of the Plano Libraries will do a general index search for a small donation--maybe as low as $5. All their monies go to purchase more microfilm for the library's genealogy section. The will be happy to help you. Visit their web page at at <http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Estates/4167>. Then mail in your request with a donation check made out to Genealogy Friends. They are 501 C-3 tax exempt. 3. I'm looking for the HOWELL and SKAGGS families. They came from Hardin and LaRue counties in KY in the mid 1880s (I think!). Rebecca Skaggs Howell may have remarried. Rebecca's grown sons, Victor Howell and James L. Howell, are both on the 1900 Collin Co census, but can't find any of the others. Have been told they may have lived in Farmersville. I'm trying to track when groups of families came into Collin Co/N. Texas from Kentucky. Jane Caperton <3arius3@airmail.net>

    1. [TXCOLL-N-L] WHITE ROCK CREEK
    2. Armond Beaty
    3. This is my first request to this site and I appreciate those who have made it possible. I am searching my BEATY FAMILY who lived in Fannin County in 1846. They came to PETERS COLONY. I believe that this is in now COLLIN County. My GGGrandfather Jesse G. Beaty, b. 1820 VA. came from Logan county, KY., with his wife Susan Nelms, b. 1818 and their children, John S. Beaty, b. 1842, and Thomas William Beaty, b. 1844 in Logan Co. KY. Susan and an infant child died in an epidemic that struck the Colony shortly after they arrived. I have heard from family members that she is buried somewhere along WHITE ROCK CREEK. Does anyone know of any cemeteries in that area? Thanks, Armond Clinton Beaty

    1. [TXCOLL-N-L] Feud at the Corners???
    2. Ray D. George
    3. I assume the question refers to this feud----"activities of people classified as desperadoes, scalawags, guerrillas, Jay-Hawkers, and Red Legs, who resided, some permanently, some temporarily, in the vicinity of Pilot Grove, Hog Eye, Choctaw Bottom, Wildcat Thicket, and Jernigan Thicket, all in North Texas or otherwise in the areas of where the boundaries of the Grayson, Fannin, Collin, and Hunt counties come together. The oldest settlement and headquarters of the area was at Pilot Grove, often called Lickskillet, because of the poverty and hunger experienced by the people there during the years of the War, 1861--1865. "The Feud" took place in the days of Reconstruction." source: "Murder at the Corners" by G.B. Ray. If you can locate a copy of this book, it makes for some very interesting reading---especially if you have ancestors involved or lived in the area at those times!!

    3. I just put a question to the list earlier, but I will add that the TATES came from Ga.Va.Ky.Tn.then to Tx. They were also in Ok. during the early 1900's. William TATE was supposed to have died in 1899 at Sacred Heart Ok. He is my BRICK WALL. I find info about his parents, etc. But not him. He married Mary "May" COCKES from around there, but she is another BRICK WALL. I can find NOTHING on her. I know they were there, just can't find them. I know Rev. John TATE was there. Surley he was a preacher at one of the churches there in Collin Co., but I cannot find anything on that either. I wonder why ? 1. [TXCOLL-N-L] Collin Co. TX - BIGGS, ROBINSON, ROGERS, STINSON
    2. Rebecca R. Morris
    3. My first ancestors to arrive in Collin Co. TX were my great great grandparents Benjamin Franklin and Alsy Jane STARR BIGGS. They moved from Rusk Co. TX to Collin Co. shortly after the Civil War and lived in the area between Parker and Lucas. The BIGGS family previously had lived in Stewart Co. TN and Martin Co. NC. My mother's paternal grandmother Margaret Catherine BIGGS was the 5th of 10 children born to this marriage. My great grandfather James Francis STINSON was born in Medina Co. OH in 1852, may have lived for a while after the Civil War in Newton Co. MO, and arrived in Collin Co. during the 1870's. James Francis STINSON and Margaret Catherine BIGGS were married in Collin Co. in November 1876. My maternal grandfather William Benjamin STINSON was the 7th of 10 children born to this marriage. Next to arrive in Collin Co. (probably in 1894 or 1895) were my great grandparents Thomas A. and Caroline Tabitha Ann LEE ROGERS. They married and began their family in Chatooga and Walker Counties GA, then lived near Thomas's grandparents in Washington Co. AR for a few years before moving to Collin Co. My maternal grandmother Lestelle ROGERS was their 11th child and the 4th born in Collin Co. Finally, my paternal grandfather John Wesley ROBINSON arrived in Collin Co. about 1896 from Coffee Co. TN.
