    1. [TXCOLL-N] TexasSites, Adv in Gen and a Request
    2. Hi My name is Bill Hocutt, I am a Genealogy Host on AOL for the Alabama Chat room and I have built a TexasSites Web Page. My Page contains links to Genealogy pages that are Texas Specific in most cases. If you have a home page for Texas Research or you know of a good Texas Page please send me a link so I can add it to the page. My only interest is in helping other Texas Researchers. The site is still in the Formation stage so any links Yall could contribute would be greatly appreciated. The Link for the Page is<A HREF="http://www.angelfire.com/tx2/UncleHiram/texassites.html"> TexasSites</A> The URL is http://www.angelfire.com/tx2/UncleHiram/texassites.html The surnames I am researching are HOCUTT, HOWCOTT, TRAYWICK, LUNSFORD, MOORE and DODSON. I would also like to invite Yall to visit my other sites 1) <A HREF="http://www.angelfire.com/tx2/UncleHiram/UncleHiram.html">Adventures in Genealogy</A> a weekly column about Genealogy with a Humorous outlook. This site has one a few awards and the column has appeared in the Dallas Genealogical Society newsletter and is a regular on the Golden Gates Genealogical Newsletter. If you decide to try this page, just click on the title of an article and it will come up. 2) <A HREF="http://www.angelfire.com/tx2/UncleHiram/NOMOCO1.html">Nomocotton</A> a page with my original fiction on it about a small town in East Texas. 3) <A HREF="http://www.angelfire.com/tx2/UncleHiram/AlabamaSites.html"> AlbamaSites</A> a page of Alabama Genealogical sites 4) <A HREF="http://www.angelfire.com/tx2/UncleHiram/index.html">Bio</A> my Personal Bio page including a photo of my family If I could have one more moment of your time I would like to call your attention to an article I wrote on the subject of Mail List Manners. The url for the article is http//www.angelfire.com/tx2/UncleHiram/manners3.html I am also enclosing a link to the article. <A HREF="http://www.angelfire.com/tx2/UncleHiram/manners3.html">Mail List Manners</A> Again, thank you for your time and thank you for indulging me. 2. Roseanne, would you please look up Steve Athens and wife, Mary Jane Brady. I was not raised by my mother, Nell Marie Athens Strong, and do not know where she was born. I had always thought she was born in McKinney. My brother said he thought she might have been born in Dennison. She and her twin brother, Charles, were born July 1, 1903. I tried to get a birth certificate for her but to no avail. She may have been born at home and no one recorded the births. Would appreciate your doing this. Thank you so much for the generosity of your time. Peggy Strong Folds from Louisiana.

    3. Mary Kathleen, I see that you follow a Durham line??? Is that in Collin County, TX also? My Durham line lived in & around Blue Ridge (Collin Co.),TX. E.J. Durham & Ethel (Cassity) Durham were the parents of 8 children. Only the next to the youngest, James, is still living at Blue Ridge. E.J. was born in Alabama (Blount Co.) in 1880. His father, Daniel, was descended from a family in S. Carolina. There were other of Daniel's siblings who moved to Alabama, Arkansas, & Texas. If this information seems to fit in with your Durham line, drop me a line & we will see what we can figure out. I have some more details. Happy hunting! Ray George rgeo@tca.net

    3. John Wesley Hardin was supposedly a second cousin to my great grandfather, J.J. Roberts. My grandmother had a tin type photo of him in her pictures. I have been trying to find them since her death and finally found the cousin who has them. Hope to have copies soon. I'm not sure how he was related but will someday figure it out. 3. I have been looking for information on my great grandfather and great grandmother for some time. His name was A. L. (Lou) Phillips and her name was Nancy B. (Nannie) Phillips. Do not know her surname, but she was Cherrokee Indian and have heard she had Bee or Beefly in last name. They were listed on the 1880 Collin County Census. He was 31 and she was 27. They had children Anna, Elizabeth and Lela at that time. Later they moved to Red River County (1900 Census). Does anyone have any information on these people? Would appreciate any help. Dottie in NC

    3. Joy, Thank you very much for the information. I need to get up there as soon as the weather cools down. I am in Garland so it is a short trip for me. John and Elizabeth are my great grandparents. I also have a number of great aunts and uncles as well as ggreat aunts and uncles in the cemetery at Altoga. I think I need to get the VOL. II and read it. I have an 800 number I can call that was provided by Rosanne. Thanks Again, Tom

    3. Allen, I may very well have relatives in Bosque Co, TX because I have not been able to tie them all together thus far. I started research about 7 months ago. The basic information on the internet would indicate that the Mantooth families are all related in some way. I have also found a number of other cousins I had no idea existed. I have really enjoyed the search thus far but have reach a point where the information is coming very slow and have hit a few brick walls. What information do you have about Bosque Co, TX? Maybe it will be a key that will open some more doors. Thanks, Tom

    3. While in town for the family reunion, you might want to attend the lecture at the Allen library on the railroad through Allen at 2. I assume the Johnsons will not be attending the reunion. 2. Barbara Sevier
    3. I'm new to the list and want to post my family interest in Collin County. I'm definitely prodded by the current posts concerning families from Lee Co., Va and Claiborne Co., TN --- Bingo! My ggrandfather, William Allen Grimes was born in Pilot Point in Denton Co., His parents, Mary Brown and Allen Grimes were married in Collin County in 1861; Allen served in the 29th Texas Cavalry (Confederate) from Collin County. Allen's parents were John and Mary Cox Grimes, originally from TN & VA, as above, but then to MO and to Tx for the 1860 census --- back to MO for 1870. I am looking for the Mary's parents (Brown), as well as for relatives of Allen. I believe that he may have had a brother, John M. Grimes, that was in the area at about the same time. Thanks, Barbara Sevier

    1. [TXCOLL-N] John Wesley Hardin
    2. Denise, Have you read the book, "The Life of John Wesley Hardin" as written by himself? It may not answer your questions to his connection with Collin Co., but in the introduction it says: "The Original Manuscript f John Wesley Hardin’s autobiography was discovered among his personal possessions shortly after his death at the hand of John Selman in El Paso, TX, on August 19, 1895." I enjoy the read. It is published by the Univ. of OK Press in Norman, vol. 16 from the series "The Western Frontier Library." ISBN: 0-8061-1051-1. LC Card no. 61-6493. Copyright 1961. I really enjoy your site. Brenda Kellow, CG, CGI <A HREF="http://www.virtualtexan.com/roots.htm">Tracing Our Roots: Star Telegram Virtual Texan genealogy column</A>
