any mention of STEFFEY, IN THE BOOKS
Am interested in obtaining a copy of The History of Leonard, Texas 1880-1980. Anyone out there have an extra copy? If so please contact me. The book was published by The Leonard Centennial Commission. It has alot of information on my family (surname Fry). Thanks for any help. Mimi
The book is mostly on the history of the county and does not have very many family histories. There are write-ups on the communities and schools of Copeville, Farmersville, Josephine and Lavon. Of course, some people are listed, but there are few family histories. It also contains the muster rolls for the Civil War units. The book is $35 plus $4 for postage. If you are from the area, it does not have to be mailed. Your best source for the people in the area you are interested in it A HISTORY OF NEVADA, TEXAS. Unfortunately, it is out of print. I can look up information for you, though. Anyone interested in a historic Collin County calendar for the year 2000? It has pictures of people and places, and several historic dates for the county on every day of the year. The purchase of this calendar from Genealogy Friends, a 501 C 3 nonprofit organization certified by the Internal Revenue Code, benefits the Genealogy Section of the Plano Gladys Harrington Library. Their goal for this year is to purchase the United States census microfilm for the decades 1820, 1830, 1840, and 1850. The cost is $10 plus $1.50 sh&h. Make check out to and mail to: Genealogy Friends, PO Box 860477, Plano, TX 75086-0477. Remember, it is tax deductible. Looking for an old photo of the Carlisle house on N. College Street in McKinney, TX, for a historical marker application. Does anyone have one?Joy
The LDS library in Salt Lake might have it on microfilm and let you get it on inter library loan. Joy Amelia Forrest Bogard wrote: > >
Joy, I really appreciate your response. No, I have not yet found the book; but I am trying to get it through library loan. I know it's difficult to get genealogy books that way, but it is usually a way of locating one. I hate to ask anyone else to copy for me because I want several pages, and I'm not sure which ones exactly. Susan's great-aunt in Dallas has a copy; she copied just enough for me to know that there is more in it that I need. If I can't work out something soon, I may get back to you. Thanks, Amelia
Did you ever find a copy of the Routh book? I am sure there is one in either the Plano or Richardson library. I can look up information for you if you do not have the book. I know Harold Huber has it. He might look up something for you Joy Amelia Forrest Bogard wrote: > > I am looking for a copy of the book OUR ROUTH FAMILY by Ross Holland Routh > to purchase. Joy, THANKS SO MUCH. I just can't believe I finally found my family down there. I really appreciate your effort and time. I will check with her. Carolyn Whitaker
Carolyn, The lady who did the books on the Cottage Hill Cemetery is supposed to be starting on the Celina Cemetery next. You could try contacting her. Gayle Maxson, 2008 Georgetown Drive, Denton, TX 76201. Glad the obituaries helped. I have desperately been trying to locate my Balch family in the Celina, Texas area. Thanks to the effort of one kind individual who sent me the Cottage Hill Cemetery records, I have found my family. I was able to speak to a cousin by telephone who lives in Whitesboro and confirmed our family ties. I can't remember who sent me the information a couple of weeks ago, but would like to give a BIG THANKS to them for sending that vital piece of information. I was able to determine from the burial records of Murphy G. Balch that my 2nd great grandfather was in fact his father. I had been looking for Harvey G. Balch, but have since determined his name was Henry Girdine Balch who married Sallie Hedrick, his 2nd wife. After the death of my 2nd great grandfather abt 1899, Sallie remarried a Ragsdale and they were living in Madill, Oklahoma. These families lived in the Madill, OK area, Grayson Co., and Collin Co. Texas. My family left Parrottsville, Cocke Co. Tenn in the middle 1890's and settled around Celina area and have lived in that area ever since. Descendants are still living in the Sherman, Van Alystyne, Texarkana and Celina areas. I just wanted to share the experience that although the information I had given didn't seem to match anything anyone had in their records, I requested the cemetery records anyway in hopes that I could make a link. One line in the obituary of my great uncle, Murphy G. Balch gave his parents, which gave me the link. Another one of the obituaries gave me an address in Whitesboro where I wrote and found the link. I didn't know my 2nd great grandfather had had any more children. I hope my experience will help other researchers who might have a brick wall to take a shot in the dark and be as lucky as I was. Does anyone know if the Old Celina Cemetery has been abstracted and published? Carolyn Whitaker http://members.aol.com/atsissie3/page/index.htm
