Mollie Robinson, Sarah Jane Cain Addison, Mary A. (Tonie) Cain Andrews, and James Cain. After William Hardin died in the Civil War, Mary married Stephen Barker from Allen Co. KY. Children were Paralee Barker m. William E. Hurst and Allen Barker m. Sallie Dora Hooper. Gale
There are no newspapers in Collin Co going back to 1869. There is an off chance that he could be listed in the Dallas Times Herald. I would try the Sherman papers first. I do not know how far back they go. Joy Tate1899Shells@webtv.net wrote: > > Is there anyone that does newspaper obits for Collin Co. ? I would also > like an obit for Rev. As a matter of fact, I called the library this afternoon and must have gotten the same lady. However, I did not take no for the answer because I know they sell them at the front desk. I asked to speak to the front desk, and that person did look up the information for me. Bailey may be covered by the Bonham or Paris Texas area newspapers, of which I have no information, but they are the county seats of Fannin and Lamar counties respectively. I can't remember when Collin and other counties were carved out of the original Fannin county, but it was way before your time in question. Mitzi Hammond Perkins

Minnie, Thanks for the info. I don't remember a Linda Corbin in my data base. If she's related to the Corbins in the DFW, Grapevine, Denton and Lewisville area, she's probably related. Do you know if she has an e-mail address? Frank Corbin
Howdy! Thanks for helping me to remember old times in Blue Ridge. Mrs. Calhoun was, as I remember her & from a kid's perspective, a rather prim lady. I remember her selling cosmetics, Avon ???. Anyway, she was always nicely dressed & powdered & fluffed when I saw her out in town. She had a nice smile & was friendly toward me. (Those were days when most people were friendly toward kids, & kids could be open & trusting towards almost everybody. Of course, small town Blue Ridge was a rather "safe environment" for everybody. Everyone in town knew my parents &, should I get into trouble, I was immediately corrected & my parents were quickly informed of the matter!!!) I also remember that she attended the Baptist Church in Blue Ridge. I think that would have been about the same time that the Baptist minister was a Bro. ??? Driggers. He may be your relative??? He was a friendly guy & could really preach a great sermon. Sorry, I do not remember his wife's name; however, she was! a very sweet lady. I think that I was in her Sunday School class or maybe Vacation Bible School class. Nevertheless, always a smile on her face! Oops, I have strayed away from Mrs. Calhoun. Was her husband, Oscar? There was another Calhoun family who lived immediately across the street from our house (located just North of the water tower)--their house was on the same block as the water tower & to the southwest. I think that these Calhouns were Frank & Vera. Didn't Rosa & Oscar have a son? Maybe more children, but a son is all that my memory gives up! Well, good that you have prompted me to remember. My genealogy group keeps encouraging us all to write down our memories & remembrances. However, I seem to keep putting it off. Your prompt seems to have helped "jog" my mind. Maybe, I had better get on with the writing task---while I can remember. Good luck with your research. My line is Durham---they are scattered back in Alabama & S. Carolina. Have had some recent assistance from folks who saw my query on the internet. Thank goodness for the computer & the internet! Oh, by the way, my father who lived in Blue Ridge all his life was Clarence George. If there is anything else that I might be able to help you with, please send a message. Take care, Ray George rgeo@tca.net
Ray, Hi, there isn't anything wrong with your mind. That is the same Rosa Lee. I wish I had met the woman. I heard a lot about her. Our grandfather's were brothers. Bill and Lee
Hiram Riley is supposed to have died in Collin Co. in 1940, could someone please do a lookup for me? Thank you. Bonnie Childress LeBlanc
Minnie, How much are the Obit books? There's a host of Collinsworths, i would like to find obits for. Thanks Frank Corbin Morristown, Tn.
I am looking for any info. on my 2x great grandfather William R. Cato Jr. who was born ~1854 in GA. He was married to a Mary Frances Ward. I'm not sure when (or if he himself) got to Collin Co., but I do know that he was in GA with the birth of his last child (Edgar) in 1894 and according to his mother's obit on Dec. 1, 1898, William Jr. "is in the West." I have a marriage certificate for his oldest son James J. Cato to Mary E. Reeves dated August 31, 1896 in Collin Co. (performed by N.C. Little, ordained Deacon of the Methodist Episcopal Church South). This leads me to believe that the family may already be in Collin Co. by 1896. The 1900 Collin Co. census (Justice Precinct #5) shows 2nd son (and my great grandfather) John H. Cato, to be head of the house and widowed at age 24 - along with his mother Mary F., widowed (what happened to William R. Jr.?), sisters Bessie, Pearl, Lula, and brother Edgar. Also on the same census page with John H. and his mom (and living right next to them) is his older brother James J. and family, and his married sister India Skelton (with her husband Charles and their children). So, it would appear that William brought his family to Texas sometime after 1894 and may be in Collin Co. by 1896 (James' wedding). Since his mom's obit in late 1898 mentions William, I'm incline to believe that he is still alive at that time. It would appear that he died sometime in 1899 or early 1900. I would love it if anyone ever comes across an obit for William since no one knows what happened to him. He was fairly young when he died - mid 40's, which is very unusual for a Cato! Also, I would be interested in any info. on John H.'s 1st wife that left him a widower at the age of 24. No one in the family knows anything about her at all! I'm not sure what happened to the rest of the clan. Mary F. and Edgar (at age 16) show up on the 1910 census (I think it says she worked in sales) on Railroad St. in Wylie - but after that, I don't know what happened to them. My grandfather, Henry W. Cato (son of John H. & Minnie <Hawkins> Cato) was born and grew up in the McKinney/Wylie area and all 3 are buried in Denison. I know I have put out this info. before but thought I'd give it another try. William (along with John's 1st wife) are the big mysteries! I would also love to find out what happened to William's wife (my 2x great grandmother) Mary Frances. Any help at all would be appreciated more than you could know! Thanks a ton!!! Teri
Howdy! Just saw your query & wondered if the Rosa Driggers Calhoun that you mention ever lived in Blue Ridge. I grew up in Blue Ridge, TX & the lady's name sounds familiar. Just wondering or maybe just my mind is wonderin'!!! Thanks in advance. Ray George rgeo@tca.net

Westminster did not have a newspaper. However, the McKinney papers covered most of the county in its obituaries. The papers are indexed to 1940. Give me a name and I will see if it is listed in the index. Joy DBrooks466@aol.com wrote: > > Could someone please tell me if there are newspaper archives from Westminster > in 1927?
