    3. Subject: a saloon called Doc's I think I sent this request before but did not receive an answer. Does any one in Mc Kinney know if in the late 1890's there was a saloon in town called Docs? I think it belonged to my ggrandfather Robert B Turner. From a newspaper article I have it states that my grandfather ( G. Fred Turner) was going to show what he brought back from the Philippines after the Spanish American war at Docs. Some time after that Robert Turner moved to Waco where he farmed. He died in 1916 in Waco and is buried in Waco. Donald Turner

Surnames: Matthews, Stringfellow, Austin, Whitley, Calhoun, Gilliam, Ham, Rice, Beville Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UkB.2ACI/4830 Message Board Post: Surnames: Matthews, Stringfellow, Austin, Whitley, Calhoun, Gilliam, Ham, Rice, Beville Savannah was born June 6, 1867 in Jefferson County, Arkansas, the oldest child of William and Ann Stewart Stringfellow. She was the oldest sister of my gg grandmother Annie Stringfellow who was married to Linzy Martin Johnson. By age two she was living in Drew County, Arkansas with her parents and by 1880 she was living in Lincoln County, Arkansas. This part of Lincoln County was broken off from Drew County so probably the family had not moved. Her father was granted 40 acres of land in Lincoln County adjacent to the land that is the Butler Cemetery and across the road from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. November 24, 1879, he sold the land to James Crotts. At the time of the 1880 census, Savannah had brothers and sisters as follows: William Henry age 10, Nina age 8, Annie (my gg grandmother) age 6, Frank age 5 and Lillie age 4. June 13, 1888, she married Thomas J. Matthews, who was 15 years older and had just lost his wife of 9 years, Sarah Elizabeth Whitehead. She died October 25, 1887 leaving him with three daughters, Lula, Lucy, and Mary and one son Brooks. Savannah and Thomas obtained their marriage license in Lincoln County, Arkansas, but I believe they made their home in Cleveland County. There is no 1890 census so this can not be documented. Their first two daughters, Flora and Julia were born in Arkansas. In 1893 the family moved to Temple, Bell County, Texas. From all I can determine at this time, Thomas was still engaged in farming even after they moved to Texas. I have not been able to find out why they moved to Texas. In 1895, a son, Clarence was born, but died that same year. Olive Ann (Annie), Lillian Alberta, Thomas Irene, Clara Mae and Marjorie were all born in Temple, Texas. Thomas died May 12, 1915, after a long illness and is buried in the Little Flock Cemetery in Temple, Texas. ! Savannah remained in Temple until 1945 then she moved to Dallas, Texas to live with her daughter Julia Whitley. On May 10, 1956, Savannah fell and fractured her right femur. She developed pneumonia and was hospitalized at St. Pauls Hospital in Dallas. She died May 25, 1956 at the age of 88 years 11 months and 19 days. She is buried in Little Flock Cemetery in Temple, Texas next to Thomas. At the time of Savannah’s death, Flora E. Matthews(Calhoun) lived in Celina, Texas, Lillian Elberta Matthews (Austin) lived in Irving, Texas, Irene Matthews (Ham) lived in Temple, Texas, O. Annie Matthews (Gilliam), Marjorie Matthews (Rice), and Clara Mae Matthews (Beville) lived in Los Angeles, California. I would appreciate any information (marriage and death dates, etc.) on this family or help locating descendants. Any help will be appreciated.
