Worth Public Library & the Dallas Downtown Library. Ft. Worth only has them through about 1940. Dallas has them to about 1976 I believe. I have copied quite a number at Ft. Worth for 25 cents a copy.

Go to the Texas State Library WebSite and go into the genealogy section. They have a lot of county records on microfilm. Many of the older death certificates are in this section. You can have your library interlibrary loan them for the cost of the postage. I have got many this way. Also, the Dallas County library has many of the death records on microfilm, I don't know if they have a research section that will copy for you or not, but it is definately worth the trip. ----- Original Message ----- From : [email protected] Sent : 2 Feb 2006 08:22:05 -0700 To : [email protected] Subject : [TXCOLLIN-N] Copies of death certificates - Library? >This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Rebecca, I do not remember, it was something like Southerds Flowers and Antique store. Sue Hawkins may be familiar with them. I believe that all counties in Texas are now charging the more expensive fee for the death certificates---& they are all official now. That is a recently passed law from our Legislature & Governor. They attempt to raise revenue wherever possible.
Rebecca, I have been told that the public library in Whitewright sells copies of the Murder at the Corners book. Happy Hunting! RayG
If you google Texas general land office, it will take you to the web site where they have a database of the land grants issued in the state, including date, file number, etc. BUT... read their intro pages, concerning accessing what is in the file itself. There is no way of telling (online) what the contents are, especially any documents they may have filed as part of the application process. Getting a land grant depended on a number of things, one of them obviously being how long they lived there (settled on the land). I've heard LOTS of goodies can show up in the files. They are in Austin, and I don't know the details of getting copies, but it is do-able. --------------------------------- Bring words and photos together (easily) with PhotoMail - it's free and works with Yahoo! Would you please send me the address of the shop that has the book for sale? I would love to purchase it ! Thanks, Rebecca Rebecca, I do not have an answer for your question, but there is a small book out that describes the Lee-Peacock situation. While I was visiting with the town historian in his flower shop in Leonard, I saw the book for sale. Sorry, but my memory fails me on the correct name. I think it sold for $15.00. Mabe some of the other members can recall. Armond
I am looking for any information on Rebecca Lynch Hamilton that died Nov.4, 1883 in Collin Co. She had remarried but don't have to whom. Also Samuel Houston Hamilton born 2-20-1846 married Laura Robertson. James H Hamilton born 12-8-1847 died 12-3-1876. If anyone could help, I really appreciate it. Glenda
I know I've asked before, but I believe I asked about different dates. Would there be any newspaper archives for Collin/Grayson counties from 1869 ? Thanks, Rebecca
Cynthia Tate was married to Rev. John Tate & Robert H. Tate's was their son. Cynthia is buried at Crossroads & Rev. John is buried at Old Pilot Grove Cemetery. The other Tate's at Crossroads are also connected. I didn't know that land grants were issued many years after. Thank you for that information! Robert was born in 1841 in TN and married Elizabeth Cornelia Taylor d/o Alexander Smith & Mary Davis Taylor . He and Elizabeth had two children: William W. Tate and Dora Tate. They were born in 1862 & 1863. Rev. John Tate died in 1869 at which time his will stated his son Robert had already passed away. So, somewhere between the time Elizabeth & Robert's youngest child was conceived and the time Rev. John Tate passed away, Robert H. Tate died. I've looked for years trying to find something about him and just can't find anything other than when he was born, who his parents were, who his siblings were, who he married and who his children were. Can't find a death date, what he did for a living, or anything. I know that is the way with many ancestors of families, but I don't want to give up hope of finding him somewhere. Anything.... Same goes with Robert H. Tate's son , William W. Tate. Can't find anything on him except when he was born, who he married, who he fathered, and at least the year he died and that he died in Sacred Heart, Oklahoma. However there is nothing from Sacred Heart that I can find either. He and his wife lived in Hunt County, and I can't find anything on him there either. Not going to give up on him either.... Sometimes just one tiny bit of information can open up a can of worms, and I keep searching for that tiny bit !!! Thanks for the help, I appreciate it ! RE:this is something you may have already done, but... have you checked land deeds for the exact property? I have found some real gold mines, in land records, including one where the heirs at law (children/spouses) were named some 10 yrs after a death, when the land was sold. Is Cynthia Tate a relative? There is a land grant for that name in Collin county in 1884. Land grants were often issued many years following the original move or settlement on a land parcel. this is something you may have already done, but... have you checked land deeds for the exact property? http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~taitandtate/Cem/tatetxcem.htm just for the heck of it, I googled Rev Robert Tate, and find Cynthia was his wife, and she is buried in Crossroads Cemetery (according to this page) --------------------------------- Bring words and photos together (easily) with PhotoMail - it's free and works with Yahoo! Thank you all for the information on the Lee-Peacock War. My GGGrandfather Robert H. Tate died sometime between 1863 & 1869. His father was Rev. John Tate. They lived in the area of the feud (south of Pilot Grove, right at the corner of the counties). I have never been able to find any information on Robert Tate's death or where he is buried. I cannot find anywhere that he was in the military either, so this leads me to think he may have participated in this feud and could be buried in that cemetery. Just a thought, but we all know that we need to check every possibility. Again, thank you all for your help ! Rebecca
Howdy! The most familiar book about the Lee-Peacock Feud (War) is Murder at the Corners by G. B. Ray, copyright 1957. It has long been out of print; however, I understand that some of the communities in that area of where Fannin, Grayson, Collin & Hunt counties adjoin have made & sell reprints/copies because of the special local interest to the area. I suspect that it is great reading for the area school students. This quote is from the Acknowledgments: This period of bloody fighting and tense feeling in the days of Reconstruction--1865-1870--is little known outside the section where the fighting took place. The gallant courage and high patriotism displayed by members of both parties will serve to remind us of today that tribulation and war bring hardships and misunderstandings that only peace can cure. Happy Hunting! Ray George
