McCain born 1832 in Kentucky was the son of Robert McCain and Catherine Johnson. The parents died in Daingerfield, Titus Co., Texas. Robert H. moved to Avinger shortly after his marriage Jan 30, 1861, to Eliza Gooslby of the Mims Chapel Community (area now a part of Marion Co). Robert and Eliza had these children: James, John, Robert "Porter", Pruseannie Elizabeth, Sara Catherine, Margaret Louella and Mattie Bell McCain. Eliza died in 1895 and Robert H. McCain married a Mrs.Lemmon (widow)in late 1895. She had a cripple daughter named Mamie Lemmon who married a boarder at there home with the last name Smith, and Mamie had a son named Godfrey Smith. I am trying to determine the second wifes full name. I believe she was Harriet Ann Elender Bard (Baird) who was married Thomas Perry Lemmons. Thomas Lemmons died in 1892, and our family bible records states she married a Robert McCain in 1895. Does anyone have access to marriage records in that time frame? Also James McCain the son of Robert H. McCain and Eliza Goolsby first married Georgia Nash, daughter of Dr. James V. Nash and Molly Beck. Georgia died giving birth to their first son; Robert D (Dee) McCain. James later married Ona Brown in 1901. Ona was the daughter of John K. Brown and Martha Yancey of the Mims Chapel Community. James and Ona had two daughters, Marguerite and Eulene. Marguerite married Hubert Jones and Eulene married Lawrence LaFoy. Seeking additonal information on that family as well.
