All of us doing research on Texas ancestors during the 1800's should remember to check to see which county will have records for a locality during which years. Present county boundaries are very different from those in the mid to late 1800's in many cases. Many early records will be found in Bexar County since it was huge at one time, extending up into the panhandle region of Texas. In some localities, the same place was in at least 3 or 4 counties at various times. The following web site will tell you when each county in Texas was formed.
