    1. TONYA HOLMES SHOOK
    2. The Texarkana USA Genealogy Society meets on Monday, May 23rd at the Texarkana Public Library. The meeting will start promptly at 7 pm so that we can allow sufficient time for our guest speaker. Tonya Holmes Shook, published author of Hastings Oklahoma, will be speaking to us about the Melungeon ethnic group. I have been assured this is a fantastic program so I do not feel we will be disappointed. Her first release (1986), "Displaced Cherokee, come home, come home" was made into a documentary film. Sorry to say, there are none of these books available. Her latest release (2004), "The Drifters" is an historical novel about the Melungeon Shantyboat people and time frame is during the Civil War. (A very compelling story). She is currently working on her third book, "God's Breakfast Nook", which looks as though it may be a Hallmark presentation. If you are located near us, we certainly invite you to join us in hearing this very interesting lady.
