Hi, I am the great granddaughter of Perry L. Wright born 1874 in Hall County Georgia, son of Larkin C. Wright and Mary Jane Deal. He was married to Lydia Martha Cook in Ouachita County Arkansas and he left there in the 1920's to go to Cass County for work. When she arrived there with her children, he was no where to be found and rumor was the Sheriff was looking for him on suspicion of rape. She went back to Ouachita County to never hear from him or see him again. My family is wondering what happened to him Did he go to jail in Cass County? Did he die in Cass County? Did he get remarried and raise another family? Any help would be appreciated. His name could have been spelled Right. Thanks in advance. Lydia Hays http://www.texfiles.com/photorestoraton/index.htm
The Texarkana USA Genealogy Society meets on Monday, May 23rd at the Texarkana Public Library. The meeting will start promptly at 7 pm so that we can allow sufficient time for our guest speaker. Tonya Holmes Shook, published author of Hastings Oklahoma, will be speaking to us about the Melungeon ethnic group. I have been assured this is a fantastic program so I do not feel we will be disappointed. Her first release (1986), "Displaced Cherokee, come home, come home" was made into a documentary film. Sorry to say, there are none of these books available. Her latest release (2004), "The Drifters" is an historical novel about the Melungeon Shantyboat people and time frame is during the Civil War. (A very compelling story). She is currently working on her third book, "God's Breakfast Nook", which looks as though it may be a Hallmark presentation. If you are located near us, we certainly invite you to join us in hearing this very interesting lady. My grandfather was born in either Cass of Marion County. His name was Zeb Akins and married Amanda Taylor. I am trying to find the names of his parents. I think the mother's name was Ellizabeth. Amanda's father was Dr. John Taylor and her mother was Amanda Cavin Taylor.

The "Mitchell" Family must have been living in Atoka Cty in 1905 since Viola was born there. I received this info from the Atoka Cty Coordinator not too long ago: 1910 Census Oklahoma, Atoka county, Stringtown: Johnson, Robert H. 39 Head of Household first marriage been married 12 years Laura C. wife 35 born in Georgia Perry son Ethel daughter D?? hard to make out daughter Tula daughter Mitchel, Henry M. father in law 74 married 2nd marriage born in Georgia In another house not far away: Mitchel, Sarah Head of household 45 married first marriage born in Georgia shows 4 children Grover son 16 born in Arkansas Daisy daughter 11 born in Louisiana Williams, Virginia daughter 16 married first marriage born in Louisiana also shows 1 child, but child not in household I have a feeling I've given you more questions than answers. I don't know why Henry is living outside the house with his daughter and her husband, or where the husband or child of Virginia is. This also shows that Henry had another wife before Sarah. I think we are related and have the right family - I am hoping that Grover's daughter Olcie will be able to help us out. At one time she told my Aunt that Grover always got mad when someone would ask questions about Viola's parents and that she had heard that Henry fathered Viola as well. Keep in touch! Thanks, Jovanni

He died 9 Nov. 1910 near Atoka, OK. His first marriage was to Sarah E. Stewart, born 1843, died 20 May 1885 Miller Co. AR. They had several children, one of which is Laura Mitchell Johnson, who you mentioned in your post. Henry's second wife was Sarah Clementine Alexander. Her mother, Nancy Stevens Alexander was born 1832, SC. so it would be incorrect to believe that Sarah came to OK or AR in the 1830's on the Trail of Tears. I know of only Grover Cleveland, Daisy, and Virgie Polly as children of Henry and 2nd wife. Your post about Viola is news to me, but having mentioned his daughter, Laura, certainly gives credence to your post. I do not know anything about Lou or Viola. What is the birthdate of Viola? Henry and Sarah Stewart (1st wife) moved to Miller Co. AR in 1882. Prior to that they were in Douglas Co. GA. He was sheriff of Douglas Co during the Reconstruction Era following th! e Civil War. Look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Katherine

Henry and Sarah Alexander (2nd wife) had 3 children, Daisy, Virgie & Grover Cleveland Mitchell. Somewhere in the marriage "Viola" was born (she is my Grandmother now deceased)....Rumour is that Henry was actually Viola's father and we were told that "Lou" was his mother....we can't find out who this "Lou" actually is....shortly thereafter Henry was thrown out of the house and lived with Laura (daughter from previous marriage)...and Sarah Alexander (called her "Ma Mitchell") raised my grandmother. We were told that Sarah came over from Georgia on the Trail of Tears. We were also told that Sarah's mother & dad died and her brother sold the estate. If you have any info differenet than mine I would love to hear from you.
