Diane: The best way to get copies of indexes is to go to your nearest FHC (Family History Center of the Mormon Church) and order in microfilm. Cost is very reasonable and copies of what you want is available. You can also see what's available on www.familysearch.org This way you get to see what you are getting. You can also order in the needed film. This is easier than trying to get it from the actual courthouse. No heavy ledgers to lift, etc. I've used this for many years and it's worked for me. If you don't have a FHC in your vicinity, ask your local Librarian if it's possible to order in from the State Archives for you. Regardless of the internet, your librarian, whether public or FHC, is still a genealogist's best friend. Henry Allen's father was Darling Allen. They were both from Forsyth County, Georgia. The only thing I found on either of them was that they both appraised assets of an estate in 1891 in Cass County. The Sarah B. you are talking about was Sarah Bowen. She was Jasper Allen's second wife. Are you related to Jasper Allen? Jasper Allen was my ggrandfather.

Research is hard on its own, let alone trying to research like you are. I can't even imagine. I have a suggestion that might give you another way to look. If you can't go to the court house in Cass County, you might find somone there to look for records on the owner. Sometimes when someone died they listed on their wills, who got who. I've never looked, but it is possible they have papers on file.

She came to Cass, Texas in the 1800s with John Robinson her owner. We are trying to find out the names of the rest of her children. And mostly about her and Maggie, and Frances. We know that maggie married Jesse Miles and then Charlie Rogers in 1903 in Jefferson Tx I think, but it was in around Jefferson and Cass Tx. Thank you for any information you can give. We want to know do she have any relatives left also.

J. F. Woodward died at his home in Hamilton County, Tex., December 18, 1901. He was born in Wayne County, Tenn., in 1836. His parents moved to Mississippi in 1840, where the father died two years later, and his mother returned to Tennessee, and there passed away in 1845. Captain Woodward then returned to Mississippi, but in 1859 he went to Texas, and entered into mercantile business at Cusseta (Cass Co., TX.) In September 1861, he was made first lieutenant of a company known as the Lone Star Rifles. He participated in the battle of Shiloh, and afterwards, being discharged, went to Alabama, where he raised a company of cavalry, becoming its captain. This was Company B of the Fifth Alabama Cavalry, and served with Forest most of the time. Captain Woodward made his home in Hamilton County, Tex., May 22, 1878. He was twice married. First to Miss Henrietta Smith, who died in 1894; and in 1896 he was married to Miss Julia Witherspoon, of Bessemer, Ala. Captain Woodward was one of the large landowners of Hamilton County, and did much to improve the locality and introduce new settlers.

Bessie lived in Mt Pleasant, Ethel lived in several places in Texas and died in Oklahoma, interesting item Ethel was born on the same day as my mother, Zena Pearlee Usrey(Malissa's daughter) and she was about 12 years older than my mother. Roy and Myrtle lived in east Texas not sure where, they might have lived near Linden close to Marion
