I am searching for surviving family members of E. R. (Eddie Russel) TODD who was b. 25 Sept 1896 and was killed in Marion Co on 10 Feb 1940. He was married but had no children. His wife, father, mother, and family members are buried in Shiloh Cemetery in Cass County. His wife was Gertrude WHITFIELD. I am also interested in his full name and if Eddie is a nickname. His death certificate had the middle named spelled Russel and not Russell and I need to know if that is accurate or a typo.

I've been researching the Curtright/Ward family for many years, but have been unable to find a relative. We own the Ward plantation drawn in the 1805 land lottery. This would have been Cornelius Rowan Curtright's mother, Irene's father, Francis Ward. The old homestead is still standing. I would appreciate any information you have to offer. Cornelius apparently did not know very much about his ancestors. I have copies of 2 letters he and his sister wrote to a distant relative asking for information on the family. I've had 2 people to contact me lately that say they are relatives, but I could not connect to their family. I have a lot of information on the Curtright and Ward Families. I'll be glad to help you with information.

At the time John Morgan Fletcher, Sr. met with those 19 other leading Cass County citizens to form a democratic newspaper, he was treasurer of Cass County having been elected to the office in 1878. As a child Fletcher's mother, Margaret J. (Jane) Lee- cousin of Robert E. Lee-told him stories about her cousin. Later he gave this as a reason for being among the first to enlist in the Confederate Army. He was wounded at the battle of Murfreesborough, Tennessee. After the Civil War, Fletcher's father, Richard Morgan Fletcher, Sr., began to give parcels of farm land to his sons as they married. Instead of land, Fletcher was giventhe equivalent in money for an education. He attended college at Landonia, Texas, where Col. Featherstone, a scholarly man, was president. After a four year course he returned to Cass County and began teaching school. He was a professor at the old Woodlawn Academy in Cusseta and was teaching in Daingerfield when he and Miss Sarah Jane Leftwich of the town were married in 1873. Fletcher was elected county treasurer in 1878 and served in that office four years which probably explains why the Journal was published in Linden from 1879 until Fletcher was defeated for the nomination by Marvin Ball.
