    3. If you really want to do something to heal the strife that is building & honor your ancestors at the same, join with UDC in its' Daughters Own Memorial Project. As TX chairman of the project, we are asking heritage groups all over the state & country to mark those forgotten soldiers' graves - in any war. Especially the forgotten family cemeteries that need to be cared for. Then dedicate the marker on April 29, 2001 at the same hour across the country. A soldier of the War Between the States or a Revolutionary soldier or a Buffalo soldier. Get a free VA marker. Or get donations from the families of soldiers in a cemetery with markers but not VA markers & put up one marker with all the names & where served. Just don't let them stay there another 138 yrs forgotten to others for their bravery as they followed a cause they believed was right, whatever it was. 3. I agree with you. I sent that same forwarded massage to the UDC mail list so they could see how some of our words are twisted. I am not a racist & do not know any members of UDC who are. I also do not use the organization that honors my ancestors to promote political views. Keep a watchful eye on your heritage in Texas. 2. jeff, i do agree with you, i am here to find family members , not to bash gov. bush! but i also agree that our heritage is important. it keeps us from repeating the same mistakes. i hope that we have came a long way from the backward ignorance of that time and era! we have to understand that the civil war did take place and i have family from both sides . that did not keep from making a family and from all those families right or wrong their decisions were i am here and so are my children. lorie

    1. Re: [TXCASS-L] Fw: [WESTEX-ROOTS-L] NCCP, ACLU, Racism, Conferancy issues.
    2. This message is a terrible political ploy, and should not be on this list. I agree that states have a right to honor their heritage, and I am upset about the SC flag being replaced and the TX plaques in consideration of being taken down, but anyone with a half a memory remebers Gore screaming the words, "It [the SC flag] must come down!" On the other hand, Bush, as all good Republicans would, simply said it is a states' rights issue and should be voted on by the state. He took all kinds of hell from ethnic groups for not criticizing the state of SC and he said that the TX plaques "would be taken down IF THE STATE'S CITIZENS VOTE TO DO SO." That last part conveniently was left off the previous message. As for the comments about the NAACP and ACLU creating more tension and being unreasonable, I agree wholeheartedly, but this is not a forum for political issues. In the future, I would prefer not to see a forum for my special interests [genealogy] being tainted by special [political] interests. I am sorry if I have offended anyone with my views, but I was stunned to see a message with a political agenda on this list. If you have a reply to my email, please send directly to me so we can get this off the list. Thank you, Jeff R.
