Posted on: Cass County, Tx Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Cass/749 Surname: JARRETT ------------------------- I would like to know if anyone has record of Jarretts living in Cass County, Texas? The earliest date that I have is a baby girl (I do not have a name) who was born & died the same day on 9 Aug 1894 to parents- William Jefferson Jarrett & Nancy Elmina Wallace. They had 8 more children in Cass County, the last was Clara Mae- b. 10 May 1915. A couple of towns that some of the children were born in were Linden & Almira. I did not find any Jarretts on the Cass County website. This info. was sent to me by a relative & think it is probably accurate, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions or info. would be greatly appreciated. Thank you--Cheryl
Hello; My name is John Self and I am the youngest son of Johnny and Sue Self from Douglassville. My parents live in an old one-story white frame house on CR2116 near Jackson Creek. I am interested in finding out exactly how old the house is and which family owned it before my mine. Also, where would I find a detailed map of Cass County showing how the area appeared from the 1850's-1870's? Any history on Douglassville would be greatly appreciated, too. I once read somewhere that the local men formed a troop of cavalry here during the Civil War, but I cannot prove this is true. Thanks for your time John Self
Cass Co. did appear as Davis Co. for only one census. dusty -----Original Message----- From: A Elizabeth <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Thursday, October 12, 2000 7:49 AM Subject: Fw: [TXCASS-L] Fw: CassFeedback > > >----- Original Message ----- >From: A Elizabeth <[email protected]> >To: <[email protected]> >Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2000 8:58 PM >Subject: Fw: [TXCASS-L] Fw: CassFeedback > > >> For a few years Cass County was renamed "Davis County" to honor >> a famous person, I believe. > Is there some way to enhance the viewing of Images of Census Online? I received this question and thought some of you may be wondering the same thing so I wanted to post the response to the list. I'm not sure there's much of any way to improve them. You can download them, and then open them with Imaging for Windows, which allows you to use the Zoom feature. But sometimes they look WORSE when you zoom in on them. They were converted from .tifs to .gifs for the Web. I've never tried to convert a .gif back to a .tif to see if that's possible. The .tifs are much better quality (they are the ones on the CDRoms) but the gifs work better for the internet. So you see there is a "price" for free. You can purchase the CDRoms at: http://www.skpub.com/genie/ or contact: John F. Schunk S-K Publications PO Box 8173 Wichita KS 67208-0173 PH 316-685-3201 FAX 316-685-6650 [email protected] I hope this helps. Happy Hunting, Dana
Amy, Davis Co TX and Cass Co TX are the same county. Cass had a name change that lasted at least long enough to have the 1870 census taken. The 1870 is also the census that began giving the month of birth and the month of marriage IF it occurred within the census year - 1 June 1869 - 31 May 1870 - and IF the enumerator remembered to write it down. Sometimes for babies on the census they put a fraction (e.g. 5/12 for 5 months old) and followed it with a month (e.g. DEC for December) that the baby was born.

All of us doing research on Texas ancestors during the 1800's should remember to check to see which county will have records for a locality during which years. Present county boundaries are very different from those in the mid to late 1800's in many cases. Many early records will be found in Bexar County since it was huge at one time, extending up into the panhandle region of Texas. In some localities, the same place was in at least 3 or 4 counties at various times. The following web site will tell you when each county in Texas was formed. I've found it very interesting and useful. http://www.rootsweb.com/~txgenweb/#cindex Jackie
Anyone want to take this one???? Dana ----- Original Message ----- From: Amy To: [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, October 11, 2000 11:30 AM Subject: CassFeedback Hi! I have a question. Upon clicking on the census links for Cass Co., I found that most of the links take you to Davis Co., TX census records, rather than Cass. I did find my ancestor on one of them; is it Cass, or is it really Davis? Also, one of the census records states "DEC" for a child of 6 months age. Is this referring to the month of December, or does it mean deceased? thanks! Amy Dyer [email protected]
Posted on: Cass County, Tx Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Cass/747 Surname: GERMANY ------------------------- Trying to determine if there is a connection between John Germany of Cass Co., TX and my GERMANY family in Red River Co. and Lamar Co., TX. John Germany received a land patent in Red River Co. and Cass Co. in the years immediately after the TX revolution. He is listed in the 1846 tax list for Cass Co., and in the original landholders of Cass Co. Who was he? Robert Smith Germany was born 1820 in MS, and came to Lamar Co. ca. 1875 with his wife Martha Elizabeth Sprouse, sons James Benjamin Germany b. 1847 and John B. Germany b. 1856, daughter Nancy Elizabeth Germany b. 1860, and an adopted child, Willie Waldo Germany. The two sons were married and may/may not have had children at that time. John B. died in Lamar Co. in 1879. The Germany family remained in Lamar Co. and Red River Co. until the mid-1880's when they migrated to Polk Co., AR. Trying to find parents for Robert S. Germany, and hoping information about John Germany of Cass Co. might provide clues.
