Byrd came to Cass County after the civil war, married a May/Mae Holliday/ Holloday/Halloday, who was born in Cass County sometime between 1856 and 1866. I know they were living in Bowie Co. by 1890, because that is where my grandfather was born. I can not find anythig on these two people in Cass County from 1863 to 1890. Anything will help.

If anyone has any information on William G. Campbell - 1858-1932, or Sarah J. (Brock?) Campbell - 1870-1945, I would appreciate it so much. They started out in Naples, TX (?), and later moved to Choctaw County, Oklahoma (Sawyer or Spencerville). One of their children, my grandfather, was Brock Burnis Campbell. He married Laura Lee Stephens. Her parents, I'm told, were also from Cass Co. Texas - V. (Valentine) T. Stephens 1853-1917, and Laura E. Stephens 1860-1906. Thanks, Linda Campbell Snowden

You kind people sent me several references, and I was able to find ou that it is "Grassyville," not Grassville. And it appeared in the 1974 Frontier Times about the CASS County Poorhouse. We cannot praise the article enough! It truly gives an incredibly richly textured sense of what poorhouses were all about ... especially in Texas. The cold bureaucracy and the warm human interest are both there -- and more! Go to http://www.mapquest.com Click on maps, put grassland in the field for city, TX in the field for state and click on the "Get Map" button. It will show Grassland, TX right where oj said it would be. Mapquest is pretty good about having all the obscure towns that are asked about in these lists.
