    2. Date: 2000NOV16 From: [email protected] (Philip Hudson) To: [email protected] (Jo Anna Dale) To: [email protected] Jo Anna, Place names are not foreign to the subject of genealogy. I didn't find Grassville but I came close. In Texas there are Grassyville in Bastrop Co.,Grassland in Lynn Co., TX, Grass Island in San Antonio Bay in Calhoun Co., Grass Valley Hollow in Kinney Co., Grassy Creek in Grimes Co., Grassy Point on San Antonio Bay in Refugio Co., and Grass Pond Colony in Wilson Co. In the Cram's Atlas of 1901 there was Grassyville in Bastrop Co. Some of these are place names of creeks and islands, etc. Some are the names of communities. There are probably more. I hope this helps. - Philip Hudson

How would I gain access to this--is it for sale somewhere? If so, where? Thanks for any help. Mickey Shanks

    3. The Alsobrooks of Chambers County Alabama are intermarried with several families that I am researching that migrated to East Texas. (Hodnett, Megginson, Moore, Finley), I am not a descendant. I saw the post about Alsobrooks and recalled reading that Joseph Harrison Alsobrook migrated to East Texas early on. He was not the first Alsobrook in East Texas but there is sufficient information on him. According to the article submitted by Kathleen Alsobrook of Austin TX. Joseph Harrison Alsobrook was the b. July 4 1850 in Chambers Co. His parents were James Wesley b. July 28, 1813 Jones Co. GA and Elizabeth Ann (Lindsey) Alsobrook b. Dec 22, 1839. They appear to move to Chambers Co. Alabama about 1832 according to Nellie Alsobrook. James Wesley Alsobrook was the son of Landon and Tamsey (Brantley) Alsobrook. Other descendants of Alsobrooks from Chambers Co. and Tallapoosa Co., AL in this lineage submitted articles in the The Heritage of Chambers Co. Alabama, published last year. You might contact them for more information. 3. Hello all. I know some of you have noticed the quietness coming from my neck of the woods. I know you've been wondering what's going on.....so.....before I go on, let me just say that I and my Mom are okay. Last Monday I took my mom shopping just like I do every Monday but this would turn out to be a unordinary day. Monday evening when we were returning home an on-coming vehicle hit a 5-6 point deer knocking it into the air. It then struck my Chevy Lumina on the hood and slid up hitting on the passenger side of the windshield. Bursting through the windshield and crumpling the roof of the car. My mother was knocked out upon impact. When I managed to get the car stopped the hind quarters of the deer were in my mother's lap. My Mom had a cut on her arm and two bruises which covered the entire upper part of her right arm. Our main concern with her was her previous diagnosis of herniated discs in her neck but the test came back fine. We returned home from the ER at 5 am Tues. morning. Needless to say I didn't go vote Tues. I was so soar I couldn't hardly move for a couple of days. Had a minor cut on my leg and a bruise or two. Still soar now, but I did get out and drive today...thought I'd better get back on the horse :) It was tense but I lived through it. 3. I am not sure if this is a relation as I am not researching Alsobrooks, however, there were a fairly large number of residents of Chambers Co. Alambama that migrated to East Texas, specifically Red River and Cass Co. just prior to and just after the Civil War, Among migrants are Joseph Harrison Alsobrook, and others. My interest is because of related marriage in my maternal line to Alsobrook. Among other family names that migrated about the same time from Chambers Co. Alabama are Greer, Sims, Harris, Robberson, Megginson, Almand, Moore, There seems to be a disproportionate number of families from this area of Alabama, Chambers Co, Tallapoosa Co. and Troup Co. GA than any other location You can find information about the Alsobrook family in the Chambers county Heritage book Vol. 9, An article about this group of Alsobrooks was submitted by Kathleen Alsobrook from Austin TX. Alsobrooks are also pictured in this addition at the Megginson Cemetery. Posted on: Cass County, Tx Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Cass/767 Surname: ALSOBROOK, WHITE, McDonald ------------------------- I did not have a death date or place for Jim. Thanks. I had a birth year and a marriage date (February 19, 1880) and I agree with you as to Jim being linked because I think Jim was son of Joseph Marshall Alsobrook and Jerusah Greer. I'm not sure of his middle initial but he was a James who was called Jim. One source thinks the initial is G for Garland and another thinks it is S, perhaps for Sims??. Since you have his death date and know where he's buried, perhaps you have the inside track on that middle initial?? I'm also curious at to why you think there may have been another wife. Is it because of the boys birth dates? I'd love to try to check into that. I've just recently been in touch with family descendants of Joseph Marshall (down through Gus) who are very interested in knowing more about their bunch. This would be of great interest to them, too. How positive are you about the daughter named Clyde? (what kind of ribbing did SHE get in school!?) Do you know if there were graves of possible children near them? What's the cemetery info on the two boys, Willie and Sims? I wonder if Sims is short for Simmons. That's a name that appears in the names of some of the TN Alsobrooks. As for Benjamin (Ben), if you are talking about the one born July 17, 1866, I feel pretty confident he is Jim's brother and that Jim was "James" in the 1870 census records. And I don't mind the head spinning, I'm getting kinda used to it these days, what with all the stray Alsobrooks yet to be connected into overall family tree.

    3. Posted on: Cass County, Tx Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Cass/766 Surname: Alsobrook ------------------------- Even though I can't be for certain, Jim Alsobrook (b. 1859 d. 28 Jun 1923) is somehow related to Joseph and Benjamin Alsobrook, as Jim married (this might be his second marriage)Fannie White (1859-10 May 1926)in Red River County on 19 Feb 1880. Jim and Fannie are buried at Clarksville Cemetery. Fannie's parents are both buried at Manchester Cemetery and Manchester was quite a road trip to Clarksville back then. Buried alongside Jim and Fannie at Clarksville Cemetery are Sims and Willie, both might be their sons, as the birth dates fit. They also had a daughter named Clyde who married Charles H. McDonald. This couple is buried in Clarksville Cemetery, also in section 7 just like her parents, Jim and Fannie Alsobrook. Sorry to make your head spin.

I was especially pleased to get the name of the cemetery where Benjamin was buried. I knew it was in Red River County, but I didn't have the exact name of the place. Now if I could just prove his father was John Alsobrook of Shelby County, TN, which is what I suspect, I'd be a happy camper....

Posted on: Cass County, Tx Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Cass/764 Surname: Alsobrook ------------------------- Joseph Marshall Alsobrook married Narcissus Clark, Jerusha Geer (married April 27, 1855 in Red River County) and Margaret Hall (married January 3, 1871 in Red River County). These marriage dates come from Red River County's marriage book. Benjamin Marshall was born to the union of Joseph and Jerusha. Benjamin and his wife, Cora Covington had quite a few children and both are buried in Manchester Cemetery in the Manchester Community of Red River County along with many of their children and their spouses. Other children are buried in the cemeteries of Leesville and Bogata. Ben and Cora lived their later years around Bogata, and most of their children lived around the Deport area. The Alsobrook descendants are found in the Lamar County area. A footnote to know, there are other Alsobrooks buried in the Red River County area Clarksville, Avery, and Lanes Chapel Cemeteries. I don't know if they are related to the Joseph Marshall Alsobrook family. There are two Alsobrook descendants working on their family history. One is Bennie Mack Alsobrook and I think he may live in Lamar County. The other is Nancy Alsobrook-Gresham. Her husband's name is Earl and they live at 180 Depot in Lamar County.
