The Brownsville Herald - Online Edition Obituaries, June 29, 2006 BETTY LOU (BARKER) ZUNIGA Lou Zuniga was called upon by our Lord on Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Lou was born on October 29, 1957, in San Benito, Texas, to Buford B. and Helen Louise (Sharp) Barker. She was a 1976 graduate of San Benito High School and later received her LVN license from Bellaire Medical in Houston. In 1986, she received her state certification as a court reporter and had been employed with the firm of Hill & Romero Certified Court Reporters in McAllen for the past eight years. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wayne Barker. Lou is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Thomas M. Zuniga; four daughters, Chez, Jessica, Kathryn and Monica; two sons, Matthew and Thomas Jr. She is also survived by her parents, Buford B. and Helen Louise (Sharp) Barker; and four sisters, Nita Mack (Gary), Sue Barker, Gerri Barker and Judy Lynn Fox (Troy); numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on June 29, 2006, at Trinity Funeral Chapels, 1002 E. Harrison, Harlingen, Texas. A special thanks to all the people and organizations that made contributions and donations toward her cause, including the staff from Sandi Jo Funk Hospice, South Texas Cancer Center, and Valley Baptist Medical Center. DON FELIPE BALBOA 1914 - 2006 Valley pioneer Felipe Balboa, 91, born December 10, 1914, entered into eternal rest at Valley Regional Medical Center Tuesday, June 27, 2006, surrounded by members of his loving family. Born at Rancho Villanueva off the Old Military Highway, he had been a resident at Spanish Meadows Nursing Home for three years and previous to that a life-long resident of Olmito, Texas. Funeral Services have been rescheduled. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. today, Thursday, June 29, 2006, at Garza Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 30, 2006, at Garza Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Committal service will follow at Villanueva Cemetery.
