JOSEPH "JOE" G. OCHOA JR. Joseph "Joe" G. Ochoa, Jr. died peacefully April 12, 2006. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melida Vera Ochoa to whom he was married for 54 years; by his parents, Joseph G. Ochoa Sr. and Josefina Gonzalez Ochoa; and by his brother, Ernest Ochoa. He is survived by his four children; nine grandchildren and one remaining brother; daughter Margaret Ochoa Klapperich of Greenville, Va., and her two sons, Kerry James Klapperich and Kevin Wayne Klapperich; son Joseph G. Ochoa III of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and his four sons, Christopher Ochoa Robertson, Eric Brian Ochoa, Austin Lee Ochoa and Andrew Joseph Ochoa; son Mark Anthony Ochoa of New Baden, Ill., and his daughter, Kalandie Marie Ochoa, and his son, Joseph Michael Ochoa; daughter Anna Laura Ochoa Morales of Houston, Texas, and her daughter, Laura Lee McGrath; brother Alfred Ochoa of Houston; also as well as several step grandchildren. Joe was born in Houston, Texas, attended Catholic School for primary grades and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School in 1940. He attended and graduated from Draughon Business College in 1942. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served from August 1942 until he was discharged in October 1944. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 15 years and later worked for U.S. Customs for 18 years. He retied from the U.S. government on February 23, 1980. Joe will be most remembered as the "man who knows everyone's birthday." His curiosity for remembering people's birthdays turned into a great hobby, as he had a phenomenal memory for numbers and for associating one birthday with another and looking for similarities in people's personalities and interests. He had memorized the birthdays of numerous relatives, friends, acquaintances and noted figures in history. Many times he would guess a person's birthday just by getting to know them a little bit. Joe's favorite day of any month was always the 17th, as both his birthday and his wife's birthday both fell on the 17th of September and December respectively. Never one to meet a stranger, Joe was a very friendly individual who always looked for the best in others. Quiet the character, he would regularly say something unique about someone or about a certain situation that his family and friends refer to now as "Ochoaisms." His grandchildren hold some especially fond memories of times they spent with their grandpa when he would visit with them one on one on the patio and create a little party atmosphere with just the two of them, or he would tell them stories about all kinds of trivia that became very important to them. He will be missed by all. A funeral Mass will be said at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday, April 17 at 10 a.m. followed by the burial at Rose Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church for Masses to be said on the 17th of any given month. Military rites will be conducted at graveside by members of the American Legion Post 43 Honor Guard. Arrangements have been entrusted to Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, 945 Palm Blvd., Brownsville, (956) 546-7111. JOE ANTHONY VASQUEZ Joe Anthony Vasquez, 32, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2006 in Billings, Montana. He was a lifelong Brownsville resident. His brother, Tommy Lee Vasquez, preceded Joe in death. He is survived by his mother, Juanita Vasquez; two daughters, Brenda Vasquez and Vanessa Vasquez; one brother, Juan Nuñez; one sister, Jessica Hernandez; two nephews, Brandon Berlanga and Samantha Nuñez; numerous nieces and nephews. Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at Buena Vista Burial Park. Joe was a great father, brother and son. He will be remembered for all his crazy ideas and for that smile he always had on his face no matter how hard the situation was. The Brownsville Herald 1135 E.
