JOHN EDWARD RYAN John Edward Ryan was a successful man in business, family, and life. He was born November 3, 1910, in Ireland and passed away March 26, 2006. Mr. Ryan was a true example of the American dream. Having been orphaned as a child in Chicago, he was able to find his way in life and become a man blessed with successful businesses and a loving family. The two most important things in John Ryan's life were his family and his work ethic. Rising early, he was always ready to take on the tasks of the day and always with that special "spring in his step." He founded, owned and operated two companies in Brownsville, JVJ Sales and Gulf Cold Storage. Mr. Ryan was also an astute investor and continued his passion for the financial markets until his last days. Mr. Ryan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his wife, Vera Lainson Ryan. He is survived and is much loved by his family, his daughter Jane Sebern and her husband Jack; grandchildren Stacey McCord and her husband Nicholas; Jay Sebern; Shari Sebern; and Jeffrey Sebern and his wife Pamela; great-grandchildren, Victoria, Courtney and Dakota Sebern, Ashton Sebern, and Ryan McCord. He will be remembered as a generous, devoted and strong central figure in his family and for his impact on multiple generations. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at Mont Meta. LEONZO BALBOA "EL POLLO" DE LEON Leonzo Balboa "El Pollo" De Leon, 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sunday March 26, 2006. He was born July 22, 1938, in Beeville, Texas, to Rafael and Alcaria Balboa De Leon who preceded him in death. Also, Leonzo is preceded in death by his stepmother, Florencis Cerda De Leon and sister, Josefina De Leon Cerda. He was raised in Las Prietas in Brownsville and was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos. He was known to be very lovingly to his grandchildren and step-grandchildren, whom also knew him as "Grandpa Poncho." Mr. De Leon is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dominga Garcia De Leon; daughter and son-in-law, Rosalinda De Leon Guzman and Azarel Guzman Sr.; son, Lonnie Garcia De Leon of Edinburg, Texas; step-children, Edna, Benito, Yolanda, Julian, Joe, Robert, Penny, Janie, Carmen, and Elijio; grandchildren, Liana Guzman, Azarel Guzman Jr., George Marco Guzman, and Randy Rey Guzman; three great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren. Mr. Hernandez was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosaura Ramirez Gonzalez; his parents; a brother, Jesus Gonzalez; and a son, Pelayo Gonzalez Jr. He is survived by his children, Roberto Gonzalez, Zandalio Gonzalez, Amelia Saldivar, Delia Hernandez, and Bertha Martinez; a brother, Arturo Gonzalez Jr.; and his second wife, Juana Ortiz Gonzalez; 19 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Santiago, Guadalupe M. Gracia and Maria Martinez. She is survived by her loving husband Rodolfo "Rudy" Barrera of Metairie, Louisiana; her sisters, Delfina M. (Raul) Villarreal and Magdalena M. She is survived by her loving family, which includes her five daughters, Minerva Reyes, Manuela Solis, Aurora Farias, Gloria Guerra, and Norma Chestnut; sons-in-law; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
