    3. The Brownsville Herald - Online Edition OBITUARIES Obituaries, March 26, 2006 GUADALUPE GONZALEZ VALDEZ, 92, passed away Friday, March 24, 2006, at his residence. He was a native of San Pedro and had been a lifelong resident of Brownsville. Arrangements are under the direction of Joe I. Treviño, Garza Memorial Funeral Home, 1025 E. Jackson St., (956) 542-5511. FRANCISCO GALLEGOS CRUZ, 53, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2006, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville. He was a native of Progreso and was a resident of Brownsville. Gallegos Cruz was transferred to Capillas San Joaquin in Matamoros, Tamps., Mexico, under the direction of Joe I. Treviño, Garza Memorial Funeral Home, 1025 E. Jackson St., (956) 542-5511. MIGUEL ANTONIO RUBIANO Miguel Antonio Rubiano Castro, 102, went into eternal rest March 24, 2006, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville. He was born on January 30, 1904, in Boyaca, Colombia, South America. He came from Colombia and resided in Matamoros, Mexico, in 1933. He opened his first business in Mexico and continued with a long list of successful and diverse businesses. Among some of them were: Agent for the NASH and FRAZER cars and the Reo and Avery Trucks, exculsive agent for the office furniture for DM Nacional, Muebleria (Furniture) Rubiano, member of the periodico "El Bravo," real estate developer, member of the board of Banca Confia. He was a member of the Matamoros Historical Society, International Lions Club, Asociacion Cruz Roja, Matamoros Chamber of Commerce, Logia Aurora Boreal, and he was also a member of the Shrine Club. Miguel was an eager, young adventurous man who came from Colombia on his own and made Matamoros, Mexico, his second home, where he was a pioneer in many commercial areas. He later became an American resident, and Brownsville was his third and final home. He dedicated his life to help different volunteer associations. He had a great, huge love for life, love for nature, love for beauty. The world was his home. He took pleasure in traveling around the world and then enjoyed putting into words the marvels he had seen and visited. He loved life! He is preceded in death by his parents: Ruben Rubiano Pineiros, and Eutima Castro de Rubiano. He is survived by his spouse, Elsa Barthel de Rubiano; seven children, Esperanza Rubiano de Duran (Hector), Ruben Rubiano R. (Josefina S.), Miguel A. Rubiano R. (Maria Luisa M.), Ana Rosa Rubiano de Merriam (Henry), Julio Cesar Rubiano B. (Nancy C.), Romeo Rubiano B. (Maricela G.) and Bolivar Rubiano B. (Linda H.). He is also survived by his grandchildren, including Ileana, Lulu, Hector G, Sandra, Omar and Oscar Duran Rubiano; Ricardo, Rodrigo, Rolando and Rocio R. Rubiano; Miguel Andres Rubiano, Ian, Jim, Ken, Ruy and Ana Rocio Merriam; Amanda Nicole, Lisa Marie and Maya Teresa Rubiano; Romeo Ryan and Julieta Lizet Rubiano; and Jason, Erick and Bolivar Rubiano. He will dearly be missed by 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held yesterday Saturday, March 25, 2006 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a recitation of the Holy Rosary held at 7:30 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista. The Chapel will resume open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Chapel Service will be held today Sunday March 26, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. LAURA RIVAS Mrs. Laura Rivas, 56, of Brownsville entered eternal sleep on March 23, 2006, in her residence. Laura was born in Los Fresnos, Texas, and lived in Brownsville with her loving children. Her death was preceded by her husband, Dionicio Rivas, and her mom, Petra Uvalle. Left alive are her kids, Graciela Sanchez, David Sanchez, Jose Manuel Rivas, Alberto Rivas, Adriana Killmer and Laura Rivas; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. The wake will take place today, Sunday, March 26, 2006, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista with a recitation of the Holy Rosary from 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a service at the chapel on Monday, March 27, 2006, at 10 a.m. at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Her loving children send all of our love and prayers to and may our blessed mother rest in peace. SALDIVAR Julio P. Saldivar, 71, entered into eternal rest, Friday, March 24, 2006, at Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born on February 26, 1935, in Brownsville, and had been a life-time resident. He was preceded in death by his father, Francisco Saldivar; his mother, Maria P. Saldivar; two brothers, Guadalupe and Conrado Saldivar. He is survived by five sisters, Teresa, Francisca, Felicitas, Ramona Saldivar, all from Brownsville, Maria S. (Frank) Urbina from Florida; four brothers, Ernesto (Candelaria) from Georgia, Jose (Maria), Frank (Gracie), both from Michigan, and Angel (Juanita) Saldivar from Brownsville; also survived by numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. today, Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Delta. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 27, 2006, at Christ The King Church. Interment will follow to Rose Lawn Cemetery. Father Hebert Diaz will be oficiating. SAMANTHA OJEDA Our beloved daughter; Samantha Ojeda, 14 years old, entered into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior on Friday, March 24, 2006, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas due to a courageous battle with a cerebral tumor. Samantha was born on January 1, 1992, in Brownsville, Texas. She was an honor roll student at Besterio Middle School, where she was a member of The Junior National Honor Society. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Blas Ojeda and Julia Gonzalez; and three uncles, Alejandro, Baltazar and Jesus Ojeda. Left to mourn her death and forever cherish her memory is her loving family, parents Blas Ojeda Sr. and Sylvia Ojeda; two brothers, Blas Ojeda Jr. and Angel Ojeda. all of Brownsville. Maternal grandparents Aurelio and Francisca Salazar of Matamoros Tamps., Mexico, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitations and a holy rosary were held on Saturday and will continue today, Sunday March 26, 2006, starting at noon with a holy rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at Guerra Funeral Home Chapel of the Arch Angels with 24-hour visitations. An 11 a.m. Chapel Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 27, 2006, at Guerra Funeral Home Chapel of Arch Angels with interment to follow a Guillen Cemetery.
