The Brownsville Herald - Online Edition Obituaries, September 17, 2006 EPIGMENIO CRUZ Epigmenio Cruz, 91, passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville in the presence of his family. He was a native of Tampico, Tamaulipas, Mexico, and had resided in Chicago, Ill., most of his life where he worked in the steel mills. After retiring, he made Brownsville, Texas, his home. Epigmenio was preceded in death by his sister, Oralia Hurm. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lucha Cruz; three children, Carlos E. Cruz, Sergio Armando Cruz and Lupita Cruz; siblings Emilio Cruz (Patricia), Carmela Lugo (Fidencio) and Laura Camacho; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Epigmenio will be greatly missed by his family and friends. But, they find comfort in the scripture in John 5:28-29 which reads, "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment." They also look forward to a time when no one will have to die, as stated in Revelation 21:4, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Visitation will be held today, Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, from 2-9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 18, 2006, at Immaculate Concep-tion Cathedral. ACEVEDO Paula G. Acevedo, 90, of Corpus Christi and formerly of Brownsville entered into eternal rest in Corpus Christi on Friday, Sept. 15, 2006. She had been a Brownsville resident for many years, until moving to Corpus Christi and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mrs. Acevedo was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Acevedo Sr., in June of 1986 and by a son, Guadalupe Acevedo. She is survived by her children, Timoteo Acevedo of Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas, Eugenio Acevedo of H. Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Jose Acevedo Jr. and Ricardo Acevedo, both of Brownsville, Elva Cavada of Corpus Christi and Evelia Flores of Austin. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. Honored to serve as her pallbearers are Jaime Acevedo Elizondo, Ricardo Acevedo Hernandez, Guadalupe Acevedo Jr., Marco Antonio Cavada, José Antonio Flores Jr. and Francisco Acedvedo. Garza, 81, entered into eternal rest Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, in her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born Dec. 1, 1924. Mrs. Garza is preceded in death by her loving parents, Juan Perales and Angelita Mata de la Rosa; hus-band Carlos Garza; daughter Maria Elena Trejo. She is survived by her children, Wenceslada Perales, Ambrocio Perales, Emiliano Trejo, brothers, Juan Perales, Julian and Gabriel De La Rosa; sisters Eusebia Perales, Dolores Ybarra, Martha Ramirez, Sole-dad Padron, Antelma Huerta, Maria Guadalupe Garcia and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. FELIPE LEAL Felipe Leal, 82, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006, at his residence in Brownsville, Texas. Mr. Leal had been a foster father for the past 16 years. Mr. Leal is preceded in death by his loving wife, Guadalupe Leal; brother Anastacio Leal; son-in-law Onecimo Esparza; grandson Robert Esparza; sisters Juanita Olvera and Clara Gonzalez; and great-grandchildren Angel and Alesse Lara. He is survived by his children, Frances Gracia (Alejandro), Felipe Leal Jr., Celia Rios, Emma Esparza, Leticia Moten (Shoaib), Carla Leal and Mary Leal; brothers Francisco Leal, Rafael Leal and Cruz Leal; sister Ezekia Leal; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. JOSEFINA OCHOA Josefina Ochoa, 63, passed away at Sunshine Haven in Olmito, Texas, Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006. She was a native of Brownsville, Texas, and had been a resident of Los Fresnos, Texas, for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesus S. Ochoa. Josefina is survived by six daughters, Janie Cisneros, Ana Solis, Rosie Garza, Olga Cisneros, Yolanda Ochoa, Josie Ochoa; five sons Agustin, Eloy, Jesus Jr., Joey and Steven Ochoa; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nephews; nieces and other relatives. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in her honor to Abundant Life Church in Los Fresnos.
