Harrison St. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. VICTOR "RUMALDO" GAMBOA Victor Gamboa known as Rumaldo passed away on Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, in Gatesville, Texas. Victor was born on Aug. 30, 1912, at the Mesquite Ranch. He was a lifelong Brownsville resident and a World War II veteran. Victor worked at the Port of Brownsville for many years and later at the Gladys Porter Zoo. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mariana Gamboa Olguin; his parents, Angelita and Jorge Gamboa; and two sisters, Otila Gamboa and Susana Garcia. Survivors include his sister, Rosa Gamboa Rodriguez; brother Jorge Gamboa; his children, Rumaldo (Virginia) Gamboa, Guadalupe (Lidia) Gamboa, Guadalupe (Salvador) Robles, Jesus (Consuelo) Gamboa, Marcos (Abby) Gamboa, Jose Gamboa, Angelita (Adan) Tambares, Elizabeth Garcia and Otila Herrera; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 2255 Southmost Road in Brownsville. ERNESTO R. LOPEZ Ernesto R. Lopez, 51, entered into eternal rest on Sept. 12, 2006. He was born on June 15, 1955. He is preceded in death by his son, Ernesto Lopez Jr.; parents Abelardo O. Lopez and Lydia R. Lopez; and sister Evangelina L. Lara. He is survived by his children, Delilah Jean Lopez, Melissa Anne Lopez (Francisco Rodriguez), Ernesto Lopez II and Adrian I. Lopez; siblings Abelardo Lopez Jr., Sylvia L. Stevens, Rigoberto Lopez, Lionel Lopez and Imelda Lopez; grandchildren Jeremy Isaac Cruz and Cristian Alexander Rodriguez; several nieces and nephews; former spouses, Linda Cavazos Lopez and Marty Hernandez Lopez. FIDENCIO RODRIGUEZ Fidencio Rodriguez, 70, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville. He was a wonderful father, husband, and human being that will be remembered forever in our hearts. Mr. Rodriguez is survived by his loving wife, Estefana Rodriguez; daughters Flora Reyes, Dora Rodriguez, Irma Perez, Guadalupe Rodriguez, Rita Rodriguez, Angelica Rodriguez Reyes, Veronica Zuñiga and Olga Cortinas; sons Ricardo Rodríguez and Fernando Rodríguez; 25 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held today, Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista. PENA Margaret S. Pena, 88, passed away on Sept. 10, 2006, at her home in Walla Walla, Wash. Margaret was born Feb. 5, 1918, in Brownsville, Texas, to Thomas and Marina Ruiz Shanahan. She received her schooling in Texas. Margaret married Robert Pena on Aug. 30, 1945, in Brownsville. They were childhood friends growing up in the same neighborhood and attending the same school and Presbyterian Church. Margaret served in the WAC, Women's Army Corp, during WWII as an Army cook. Her husband also served in the U.S. Army in North Africa during WWII. They moved to the Walla Walla area in 1949 and resided at their family home in College Place since that time. Margaret was employed by Birds Eye Frozen Food for 15 years before moving to the VA Medical Center and was in food service there for four years. She continued here career in food service at the Blue Mountain Convalescent Center for eight years and also at Whitman College for four years. She retired in 1973. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family, friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed reading and visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Pena was an active member of the College Place Presbyterian Church. Margaret is survived by her husband at home, three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy Wright and James Schieve of Red Bluff, Calif., Patricia and Jerry Bafus of Walla Walla, Wash., Bertie and Terry Van Dyke of Walla Walla, Wash.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Xavier Quintero, and two sisters, Bertha Shanahan and Matilde Golding. A memorial funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at the College Place Presbyterian Church in College Place, Wash. There will be a private family interment at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens in College Place, Wash. Miguel Jaime Barrera Jr., 49, of Los Fresnos, Texas, and Rancho El Capote, passed away on Sept. 13, 2006, in Kingsville, Texas. He is preceded in death by his father, Miguel Barrera Sr., and a baby-sister, Hortencia Barrera Vento. He is survived by his wife, Ludivina M. Barrera of Los Fresnos; a son, Miguel Jaime Barrera III; two daughters, Ada Ludivina Barrera and Denise Guadalupe Barrera, both of Los Fresnos. He is also survived by his mother, Hortencia Vento Barrera of San Benito; a brother, Jesus Antonio Barrera of San Benito; four sisters, Emma Barrera Gonzalez, Nohelia Barrera Garcia, Silvia Barrera Guerrero and Alma Delia Barrera, all of San Benito and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. An all night visitation vigil began at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. today, Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today, Friday, Sept. 15, 2006, at St. Benedicts Catholic Church in San Benito, Texas. Visitation will continue after the funeral Mass at Rancho El Capote in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico, all day and night with interment to follow on Saturday morning, Sept. 16, 2006 at El Capote Cemetery in Mexico.
