Jose "Santos" Moncivaiz Sr., 69, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to meet our Lord on Aug. 30, 2006. He was born in Madero (near Tampico), Tamaulipas, Mexico, on Nov. 2, 1936. He moved to Port Isabel, Texas, where he met his wife of 45 years, Graciela R. Moncivaiz, and raised five children, Jose Luis (Emma), Jose Santos Jr. (Rita), Mario Rafael (Michelle), Maria Teresa (Francisco) and Sandra Lee Moncivaiz; 10 grandchildren, Joseph (Joanne), Daniel, Kristin, Santos III, Amanda, David, MiKayla, Brandon, Justin and Natalie Moncivaiz; and one great-granddaughter, Kayla Moncivaiz. Jose "Santos" worked in the shrimping industry for over 25 years as a shrimp boat captain. After retiring from shrimping, he continued a career running a tugboat for Sea Horse Tugboats. His favorite pastime was football. He was a faithful Port Isabel Tarpon fan, even after moving to Los Fresnos, Texas, in 2003. Visitation will be held today, Aug. 31, 2006, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Los Fresnos, Texas. Cremation will follow. LUIS RANGEL LUNA Luis Rangel Luna, 90, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville. Mr. Rangel is survived by his wife, Juana Rangel; children Marcos Rangel, Luis Rangel, Ruth Fernandez, Noemi Rangel and Febe Campos; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held today, Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel Buena Vista. ALICIA CARMEN LONGORIA GUERRA Alicia Carmen Longoria Guerra entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006, at the age of 90. Alicia was born on May 25, 1916, in McAllen, Texas, to Eugenio and Orie Longoria. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugenio and Orie McNorton Longoria; her husband, Arcadio Eduardo Guerra; her daughter, Minerva Guerra; and her brother, Eugene Longoria. She is survived by her daughter, Evelina and her husband Hernan Contreras; her son, Rogerio Arcadio Guerra and his wife Maria del Carmen and her sister-in-law, Mary Louise Longoria and many nieces and nephews. Left to cherish memories of Alicia are grandchildren Hernan and David Contreras, Berta Alicia and Alfonso Eduardo Guerra. Alicia graduated from nursing school in 1938. She served as a registered nurse at McAllen Memorial Hospital and the Hidalgo County Schools. She served 25 years with the McAllen Independent School District. She was the nurse who opened the McAllen Child Clinic with the McAllen Junior League in 1940. In 1974, she retired from the Nursing profession. She became one of the first volunteer Hospice Nurses for Casa Consuelo/Comfort House in McAllen, serving for 20 years. Alicia volunteered much of her time to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, where she donated many of her needle points and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Visitation will be held today, Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, from noon to 8 p.m. with a holy rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Kreidler Funeral Home, 314 N. 10th Street. Funeral Mass will be at celebrated at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church with burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Hernan Contreras, David Contreras, Berta Alicia Guerra, Alfonso Guerra, Rene Contreras and Nune Falcon. Honorary pallbearers will be Heriberto Longoria, Armando Guerra and John Guerra. The family suggests that Memorial contributions may be made to the Comfort House, 617 W. Dallas, McAllen, TX. HAYDEN ORVILLE HAYS Hayden Orville Hays passed away on Aug. 24, 2006, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 79 after a lengthy illness. He was the cherished husband of Allie (Louise) Hays for 58 years. Besides being survived by his wife, he was the devoted father of three children and their spouses, Christine Smoak (Franklin), James Hayden Hays (Lisa) and Beverly Goode (Phillip). He was the loving grandfather of Suzanne, Justin and Kathleen Smoak, Austin and Landon Hays, and Lauren Goode. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Copenhaver of Brownsville, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters Evelyn Hudson and Gloria Butler and infant son Hayden Hays Jr. Mr. Hays was born on May 7, 1927, in Brownsville, Texas, to the late Maude Ray and Hayden G. Hays. He graduated from Brownsville High School in 1944, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. for two years and went into the plumbing business with his father. He retired in 1991 from his self-owned plumbing and heating business, Hayden Hays and Son Plumbing in Brownsville. He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Brownsville where he taught an adult Sunday school class for several years, was a charter member of the West Brownsville Lions Club and gave many years of service to the West Brownsville Little League in several capacities. Over the years, he loved to hunt and fish, nurture his fruit trees, meet with his friends in the coffee club and dance with his wife. A memorial service and celebration of life for Mr. Hays will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church of Brownsville, 1225 Boca Chica Blvd. The Brownsville Herald 1135 E.
