ALVIS LEE FLETCHER Alvis Lee Fletcher, 79, of Brownsville, died Monday at Audie Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital in San Antonio. Born in McKinney, Texas, he joined the Cavalry at Fort Brown in 1938 and later transferred to the U.S. Air Force where he was a photographer. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War and retired after 21 years of service. He returned to Brownsville and worked at the Port of Brownsville until 1967 and had served as a substitute teacher in the Brownsville School District. Survivors include a daughter, Marcia Barbosa; four sisters, Louise Ramsey, Myrtle Hickman, and Wanda Fletcher all of Oklahoma and Vera Woodward of Kansas; a brother, James Fletcher of California and two grandchildren, Heather and Shannon Barbosa both of Brownsville. Funeral services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home Chapel, 945 Palm Blvd. with Rabbi Harry Lawrence officiating. The body will be cremated. Friends of the family are making memorial donation to the American Cancer Society.
