(Smitty) Smith, 82, of Brownsville, died Tuesday at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. He was a native of Paris, Texas and had worked for Philen Shipping Company. He was a member of ILA Local 1544 for clerks, checkers and timekeepers for 25 years. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Smith; two sons, Dewayne E. Smith and Jerry L. Fulton; three daughters, Bebora [Debora] L. Walker, Brandy O. Smith and Lavine Cannon all of Brownsville; a brother, Brad Smith of Lubbock; a sister, Aline Chittwood of Dallas, 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home East Chapel, 945 Palm Blvd. with interment at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Gene Cockrill, Joe Saenz, Joe Townsend, Gordon Williams, Gene Barton and Roy Metzger. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Hutton, Pete Walker, Thelbert Curry, Encarnacion Balderas, Albert Champion Jr. and Frank Parker.
