ELPIDIA ESTRADA GARZA, 66, of Port Isabel, passed away on February 27, 2006 at McAllen Medical Center. TOMAS GARCIA GOMEZ Tomas Garcia Gomez, 79, entered into the glory of his eternal life on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Gomez was a lifetime resident of Brownsville, having been born here on August 27, 1926 to Gumecindo and Amparo Gomez who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Ilaria Garcia, Maria Garza, Rosa Villarreal, and Guadalupe Cruz. Mr. Gomez was a pipe fitter having worked for Brown and Root and Union Carbide. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. His favorite pastimes were fishing and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed keeping himself informed of world events by listening to the various news channels, but his main passion was keeping abreast of the weather. He was the family's "weatherman." Sometimes, a particular news or weather event would illicit his favorite saying, "Valga me Dios de mi Vida." Left to mourn his passing are; his wife of 44 years, Elida C. Gomez; his children, Margarita and her husband Albert Muñoz, Tomas Jr., and his wife Jessica, both of Brownsville, Cynthia and her husband Joe Muñoz of Harlingen, Texas; his grandsons, Anthony Muñoz, Albert Muñoz III, and Bryan Gomez; his only granddaughter, Mia Jo Muñoz; his step-grandsons, Joe Brandon Muñoz and Niles Muñoz; and his step-granddaughter, Brandi Jo Muñoz. In addition, he is also survived by a brother, Manuel Gomez, and several half brothers and sisters. Visitation will begin today, Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 10 a.m. and continue through 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. this evening. Visitation will resume at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 5, 2006 and continue through 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will be a 10 a.m. chapel service for Mr. Gomez on Monday, March 6, 2006 followed by interment at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Maldonado, 71, entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Valley Baptist Medical Center- Brownsville. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her father, Aurelio Treviño; mother, Leonor Treviño; and a brother, Andres Treviño. Mrs. Elida T. Maldonado is survived by her loving husband, Margarito L. Maldonado; daughters, Norma Maldonado and Belinda M. Cavazos; a son, Margarito Maldonado Jr. (Celeste); sister, Alicia Saldaña (Francisco); brother, Esteban Treviño (Oralia); grandchildren, Cecilio Cavazos Jr., Michael Cavazos, David Cavazos (Clarissa), Andy Maldonado, and Maegan Maldonado; a great-grandson, Donovan R. Cavazos; numerous nieces and nephews. CRISTELA CORTEZ GUAJARDO Cristela Cortez Guajardo entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Monday, February 27, 2006 at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas at the age of 61 years. Mrs. Guajardo was preceded in death by her parents, Omar Cortez and Guadalupe Berumen de Cortez; and her husband, Antonio Guajardo. Left to cherish her memory is her loving family. Her three daughters, Gabriela Prado (Manuel) of Penn Valley, Calif., Sandra Guajardo of Richmond, Texas and Claudia Guajardo of Edinburg, Texas; one brother, Lic. Edmundo Sosa Berumen (Graciela Cardenas) of Matamoros, Tamps., Mexico; one sister, Alma Cortez de Sosa (Armando) of Galveston, Texas; three grandchildren, Antonio, Angelina and Andres; and numerous other relatives.
