    3. I will be posting extractions of several news articles and obituaries. Most do not have a newspaper name, many are undated. I am not related to many of these families. The Brownsville Herald, Sunday, May 15, 1988 HANNA'S TOP STUDENTS ALSO ACTIVE IN WORK AT CHURCH By Brenda Alvarado Herald Staff Writer Homer Hanna High School valedictorian Robert Baker and salutatorian Jeffrey Johnston share one thing besides academic achievement and that is "inspiration." They are active in their church youth groups and both have strong feelings about the future. Baker, 18, has been accepted to the University of Houston. He plans to major in architecture and eventually work in the field of environmental design. Outside of school work, Baker is involved with the Youth Group at Central Christian Church and is a volunteer at Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He said his parents don't hassle him about homework, but they have always encouraged him and given him a lot of liberty. This, he explained, has in turn provided a good balance. "It's like two different worlds, two different lives, the weekdays at school and then the weekends. It (achieving) really all began when I was a freshman," he recalled. "I wasn't involved in sports then. I was only on the student council so I had a better opportunity to work on grades and get on the honor roll," he said. "Now, it's something in our family. There's never been anyone up there and there hasn't been a tradition of geniuses. So, it's like I'm the first in the family to go so far and it's been rewarding for me." Baker, the son of Mr. ad Mrs. Robert Baker of Brownsville, is on the Eagle varsity basketball team and vice president of the National Honor Society. His classmate Jeffrey Johnston is treasurer for the National Honor Society, a member of the junior varsity tennis team and a photographer/reporter for the school newspaper. Johnston, originally of Houston, has been accepted to Texas A&M University at College Station and . . . this article is incomplete.
