JESSE GARDUZA, 17, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, in Galveston, Texas. ALICIA M. MORA Alicia M. Mora, 76, went into eternal peace on March 1, 2006, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jose Angel Mora; mother Aurora Gonzalez; father Ezquiel Machuca; and one son, Gerardo Arturo Mora. Mrs. Mora is survived by three sons, Jose Luis, Gustavo Arnoldo and Martin; daughters Alma Rosalinda, Alicia Aide, Martha Laura and Sandra Patricia; brothers Alberto Machuca Gonzalez, and Ruben Muñoz; sisters Gloria M. Viuda de Mendoza, Guadalupe Uvalle, Yolanda Muñoz, Rosa Muñoz and Norma Sosa. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held frim 1:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, Friday, March 3, 2006, at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, 2006, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Committal Service will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. CRISTELA CORTEZ GUAJARDO Cristela Cortez Guajardo entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Monday, February 27, 2006, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas, at the age of 61 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Omar Cortez and Guadalupe Berumen de Cortez; and her husband, Antonio Guajardo. Left to cherish her memory is her loving family, her three daughters, Gabriela Prado (Manuel) of Penn Valley, Calif., Sandra Guajardo of Richmond, Texas, and Claudia Guajardo of Edinburg, Texas; one brother, Lic. Edmundo Sosa Berumen (Graciela Cardenas) of Matamoros, Tamps., Mexico; one sister, Alma Cortez de Sosa (Armando) of Galveston, Texas; three grandchildren, Antonio, Angelina and Andres; and numerous other relatives. Visitations will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2006, at Guerra Funeral Home Chapel of The Holy Family. ELIDA T. MALDONADO Elida T. Maldonado, 71, entered into eternal rest with the Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2006, at Valley Baptist Medical Center- Brownsville. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her father, Aurelio Treviño; mother Leonor Treviño; and a brother, Andres Treviño. Mrs. Elida T. Maldonado is survived by her loving husband, Margarito L. Maldonado; daughters Norma Maldonado and Belinda M. Cavazos; a son, Margarito Maldonado Jr. (Celeste); sister Alicia Saldaña (Francisco); brother Esteban Treviño (Oralia); grandchildren Cecilio Cavazos Jr., Michael Cavazos, David Cavazos (Clarissa), Andy Maldonado and Maegan Maldonado; a great-grandson, Donovan R. Cavazos; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. today, Friday, March 3, 2006, with family receiving friends and acquaintances at Funeraria Del Angel Buena Vista. INEZ MERRYDAY STEWART Inez Merryday Stewart, 83, died peacefully in her home in Brownsville on February 27, 2006. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on November 24, 1922, and grew up in Palatka, Florida. She attended Florida State College for Women and received her associate degree in nursing from St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1945. She received a bachelor of science in liberal arts from Columbia University in 1948. She married the Rev. J. Rufus Stewart in Mandarin, Florida, in 1952. They moved to Brownsville in 1960 where Rev. Stewart began a 23 year career at the Church of the Advent Episcopal. Mrs. Stewart was very active in the nursing community in the Brownsville area. She worked for many years at Mercy Hospital, taught in the vocational nursing program at Texas Southmost College and worked for Dr. Fernando de Leon in his office. Following her retirement from nursing, she continued to stay active in nursing by becoming involved with the Lower Rio Grande Valley Nursing Scholarship Fund. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and her husband, the Rev. J. Rufus Stewart. She will be missed by her daughter, Margaret Teague and her husband, Wesley, of Alexandria, Virginia; her son, John Stewart and his wife, Cindy, of Kernersville, North Carolina; and her three grandchildren, Sam, Carey Ellen, and Jacqueline. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2006, at the Church of the Advent Episcopal. The family will be visiting with friends in the Parish Hall of the church immediately following the service. In leiu of flowers the family suggests sending donations to Sunshine Haven, P.O. Pope, 72, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2006, in Granbury. No services are planned at this time. Mrs. Pope was born April 17, 1933, in Bonham, Texas, to William and Tommie Gray Pope. She worked for the U.N. Peacekeepers in the Sinai area of Egypt and then for an oil company in Corpus Christi. She lived in Dallas for many years, moving to Brownsville in 1991. Mrs. Pope had lived in Granbury for the past three months. Survivors include her brothers, Tommie Pope and wife Wanda of Granbury and Charles Pope and wife Cathy of Tucson, Ariz.; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Ruby Jones of Dallas.
